Ricki Lake is opening up about her friend Rosie O’Donnell‘s reaction to her facelift before getting one herself. The 58-year-old said O’Donnell, 64, was at first “a little judgy” when she found out about the procedure and even asked her why she wanted to do it.
“She’s my really good friend — we talk all the time — and she was a little judgy. She would admit it,” Lake said on the Oct. 31 episode of The Weekend View. “She’s like, ‘Why do you need it? You don’t need it.’”
“And sure enough, she lost a bunch of weight … and she went and had it done,” Lake continued, adding, “She looks phenomenal.”
O’Donnell revealed she underwent a facelift in an essay on Substack in May and admitted she never thought she would get one.
“I used to feel very strongly about facelifts. Not casually — morally. I had assigned myself as head of all women who would never, ever,” she wrote in the piece, which was also shared on Instagram on May 26.
“I thought it was a betrayal. Of feminism. Of aging. Of our team of women worldwide,” she continued. “And then I lost 50 pounds…”
The comedian also said she hopes her decision to get the facelift will serve as a positive model for her children, Parker, 31, Chelsea, 29, Blake, 26, and Vivienne, 23, and Clay, 13.
“I want them to grow up in a world where they don’t feel like they have to change but also know they can, if they want to, without losing moral standing in their own lives,” she wrote.As for her own facelift, Lake explained that she wasn’t “trying to look 20,” during The Weekend View segment, and just wanted to feel like herself again.
“I have my natural gray hair. I really own my age, and I love the age I’m at,” she said.
