Indian legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have both retired from the shortest format of the game for India; however, they are still fascinating to watch as they return for their franchises in the IPL.
Indian legendary cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from T20Is for the past two years, yet they continue to be two of the top three highest run-scorers in the history of the format. These two were the first ever batters to go past 4000 runs in T20Is.
Ever since they retired from T20Is, on several occasions, the Indian fans have wanted the two greats to come out of international retirement and feature for India. However, this time it's two former cricketers who have picked one of the two greats for an international comeback.
In a recent rapid-fire round on the Cricbuzz show, former England captain Michael Vaughan and Sports orator Joy Bhattacharya were asked by the show host as to who they would pick to reverse their international retirement if they could pick only one of the two Indian cricketers, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Joy Bhattacharya was first to go; he giggled at the start, claiming that it was a very tough choice to make, especially with the two players having worked so hard in recent times. He pointed out how Rohit has lost around 15 kgs of weight, while Kohli has been just fantastic.
He then finally went on to pick Virat Kohli and claimed that this was just a minor advantage for the RCBian over the MI star, though they are equally stylish cricketers. It felt through his words that he gave Kohli an advantage by a margin of 51 to 49 over Rohit.
Michael Vaughan picks Rohit Sharma, citing him as a better fielder than Kohli
However, the England skipper stood on the contrary and went on to pick the former Indian captain as his choice over Virat Kohli, especially in T20Is. However, the reason he cited for this choice was not Rohit's explosiveness or increase in fitness.
He rather picked Rohit as a better fielder who catches the high ball better, according to the English great. He claimed, "Obviously, Virat is an IPL legend; I just think I want Rohit under the high ball."
The host instead claimed that surely there would be a comment somewhere demanding Rohit reverse his retirement from T20Is and Virat from Tests.

Rohit Sharma has been doing some good work at the start of the IPL season, with the orange cap currently on his head after the second match vs the Delhi Capitals. However, Virat Kohli too made a promising start with an unbeaten half-century and would be keen to come out and get on during the second game as well.
These two Indian legends still play ODIs for India and will be seen returning in the tricolor when India tours England for a white-ball series after the IPL in 2026.
