A newly surfaced set photo from Daredevil: Born Again season 3 appears to confirm what Marvel fans have long been hoping for – the return of Luke Cage and Iron Fist to the MCU.
The image, taken during filming in New York on Thursday 3 April 2026, shows Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) walking alongside Mike Colter and Finn Jones, who previously starred as Luke Cage and Danny Rand in Marvel’s Netflix era.
While Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce their involvement, their presence on set strongly suggests both characters are being reintroduced into the franchise.
Luke Cage and Iron Fist were first introduced during Marvel Television’s Netflix era, which ran from 2015 to 2019 and focused on a more grounded corner of the superhero universe. Colter’s Luke Cage debuted in Jessica Jones before leading his own series, where the bulletproof hero became a symbol of Harlem, balancing street-level crime with broader questions of power and responsibility.
Jones’s Danny Rand, meanwhile, returned to New York after years presumed dead, reclaiming his role as the Iron Fist – though his series took a more mystical approach, exploring the mythology of K’un-Lun alongside corporate intrigue at Rand Enterprises.
The two heroes eventually joined forces with Daredevil and Jessica Jones in The Defenders, where they teamed up to take down the ancient organisation known as the Hand.
Following the cancellation of those shows, fans have consistently campaigned for the characters to return, particularly after Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio were brought into the MCU. Momentum behind that campaign grew even stronger when Ritter reprised her role as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again season.
The latest set sighting now appears to take things a step further, hinting at a much broader reunion of Marvel’s street-level heroes.
If confirmed, the return of Luke Cage and Iron Fist would mark the first time all four core Defenders – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist – have appeared together on screen since 2017.
The timing of the photo aligns with production on the third season of Daredevil: Born Again, which is currently filming in New York City after cameras began rolling in March 2026. The series is expected to continue shooting through the summer, with a likely release window in 2027 on Disney+.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is currently streaming on Disney+.
