James Darcy from Malverne, New York has announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic careers at Notre Dame beginning in fall 2026. Darcy is a member of the US National Junior Team after earning an open water spot.

I also want to thank my family, friends, and Coach’s for helping me fulfill this lifelong dream of being part of the Fighting Irish. Finally I would like to thank the coaching staff at @ndswimdive for giving me this opportunity. Go Irish”Darcy most recently competed at the NCSA Spring Championships in the middle of March. There he won the 1000 freestyle in a lifetime best 8:53.74, a 3.70 second drop from his previous lifetime best. He has dropped almost 13 seconds in the 1000 free over the last year as he entered the season with a lifetime best 9:06.55. He also swam a personal best 1:39.75 at NCSAs during Long Island Aquatic Club’s 800 free lead off.
He traveled to Austin, Texas back in December for the US Open. Darcy had a top eight finish in the 1500 free as he swam a 15:35.44. His 2nd highest finish came in the 800 free as he swam a lifetime best 8:10.99 for 10th.
Darcy’s Best SCY Times Are:
1650 free: 14:58.09 1000 free: 8:53.54 500 free: 4:24.21 400 IM: 3:57.92The Notre Dame men finished 9th out of 15 teams at the 2026 ACC Championships. Tommy Janton led the team with 61 individual points including a 4th place finish in the 100 back with a 44.68. This was the first season back for the swimming program after their suspension during the 2024-2025 season.
Based on his best times, Darcy is a huge addition to the Fighting Irish men. His best time in the 1650 free would have been 9th at ACCs. The team had no scorers in the event this year. It took a 4:20.07 in the 500 free to earn a 2nd swim. In addition to his conference impact, Darcy is not far off what it took to make the 2026 NCAA Championships in the 1650 free as the cutline sat at a 14:52.16. Notre Dame had three individual swimmers at the 2026 NCAA Championships, and all three return this upcoming season.
Darcy will arrive this fall as a member of the class of 2030 along with Brayden Jones, Finn Martin, Grant Lilly, Ryan Quinn, and Rhett Smerklo.
