That’s because forecast models are suggesting another round of showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be severe, could impact the region in coming days.
Before that threat of severe weather returns to the forecast, Chicago residents will have to bundle up a bit, as temperatures are expected to rapidly drop on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.
Low temperatures overnight could drop into the low-to-mid 30s, and there won’t be much relief in sight for Wednesday, with highs only expected to rise into the 40s.
There is also a chance of some showers in the area, but a much bigger threat for precipitation will arrive on Thursday.
Once again temperatures are expected to climb rapidly, with highs in the mid-70s for most of the area, according to forecast models.
That warm-up will be accompanied by the arrival of another front that could produce powerful thunderstorms, with the entire Chicago area at a “slight risk” of severe weather, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
The main threats with any severe storms that develop would be gusty winds and potentially large hail, with a non-zero tornado risk, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.
Friday could see more rain in the area, though that will likely occur with showers rather than full-on thunderstorms.
Highs are expected to rise into the 60s on Friday and Saturday, with another front sweeping through and dropping readings into the 50s for Easter Sunday, according to forecast models.
