48th ALL JAPAN JUNIOR OLYMPIC SPRING COMPETITION
Thursday, March 26th – Monday, March 30th Chiba International Swimming Pool SCM (25m) Meet Central ResultsThe penultimate night of action unfolded from the 48th All Japan Junior Olympic (JOC) Spring Competition with another High School record going down on the men’s side.
Just over a week after he fired off a new World Junior Record of 1:56.53, 17-year-old Yumeki Kojima soared to a new lifetime best and school benchmark in the SCM 200 back.
Kojima stopped the clock at a time of 1:50.32, crushing the field by nearly five seconds.
Yuki Arita was next to the wall in 1:55.26 while Itsuki Haga rounded out the podium in 1:55.49.
Entering this competition, Kojima’s career-swiftest was represented by the 1:53.38 he established last October during the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup. That means he hacked almost three seconds off that former outing to become JPN’s fastest high schooler in history.
The former record stood at the 1:51.00 retired Olympic icon Kosuke Hagino put on the books at the 2012 Short Course World Championships.
Splits for Kojima’s performance are below.
This is the third Hagino High School record to fall over the last week. Hinata Ando surpassed Hagino’s former mark in the 400m free at this meet, while last week at the Japan Swim Kazushi Imafuku logged a new benchmark in the LCM 400m free.
