San Diego County’s weekend calendar has a serious case of more-is-more – more hoops, more butterflies, more baroque and yes, more cowbell. From first-round NCAA basketball action at Viejas Arena to ballet, baroque and Banana Ball, there’s no shortage of ways to fill your time.

Experience bold, intimate dance as The Rosin Box Project’s Empower: A Prism of New Work takes the stage Friday through Sunday at Liberty Station’s The Light Box Theater. The season opener features new works by Carly Topazio, Jeremy Zapanta and guest choreographer Adriana Pierce, inviting you to see contemporary ballet through multiple perspectives and exploring how authorship, identity and imagination transform what we see and feel. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, 8 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $50.

Immerse yourself in Latino cinema during the annual San Diego Latino Film Festival, running through Sunday with 147 feature and short films screening at AMC Mission Valley 20, Digital Gym Cinema and the Southwestern College Performing Arts Center. Choose from individual $13 tickets or festival passes ranging from a five-ticket pack to an all-access VIP option. Special events include opening- and closing-night celebrations and a Sunday screening spotlighting Latino cultural icon Luis Valdez.

Cast a line at the Pacific Coast Sportfishing Show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, where you can wander through four halls and more than 200,000 square feet of freshwater and saltwater fishing gear, boats and travel destinations. Hours are noon to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $20 at the door, with free admission for children 12 and younger and active-duty military. A free kids’ trout pond rounds out the family-friendly experience.

Dive into environmental storytelling as the Blue Water Film Festival returns through Sunday at venues across the county, featuring film screenings, filmmaker panels and special events. Catch a poolside screening of “JAWS @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story” at the La Valencia Hotel, attend eco-events in Encinitas and La Jolla, and celebrate this year’s Eco Hero Award honoree Jon Rose, founder of Waves For Water, while discovering work from local filmmakers with ties to Imperial Beach, Point Loma, Carlsbad and Del Mar. Cost varies by venue. The 2026 program includes 31 films in competition – 10 features, 15 shorts and six animated works representing filmmakers from around the world. Screenings start at $23; cost varies by venue.

Catch the closing weekend of Hedda Gabler at The Old Globe in Balboa Park, extended due to popular demand. This vivid new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s classic drama follows the fiercely intelligent and restless Hedda as she manipulates those around her, wrestling with power, repression and the confines of 19th-century society. Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday for the final curtain call. Tickets start at $66. Read our interview with Artistic Director Barry Edelstein before you go – we promise there are no spoilers!

Keep the night going Friday at Nat at Night at the San Diego Natural History Museum in Balboa Park, where you can explore exhibitions after hours until 11 p.m., sip cocktails from bars on multiple floors and take in city views from the rooftop deck while enjoying bites from Wolf in the Woods and The Craft Taco.
