2026 BALTIC STATES CHAMPIONSHIPS

March 7th & March 8th Riga, Latvia LCM (50m) Entries/Results

The 2026 Baltic States Championships concluded over the weekend, with a strong Lithuanian contingent taking the overall team trophy ahead of runners-up Estonia and then Latvia. Several top-tier athletes were among the competitors who took to the long course pool spanning the two-day affair.

    Key Results

17-year-old Tajus Juska represented the top performer in the men’s 100m freestyle, beating Olympian Danas Rapsys in a tight battle to the wall.

The rising teenager stopped the clock at 49.66 while Rapsys settled for silver less than half a second behind in 49.95. Kristupas Trepocka rounded out the podium in 50.26.

Juska’s lifetime best in this sprint remains at the 48.57 he put up for silver at the 2025 European Junior Championships.

30-year-old veteran Rapsys exacted his revenge in the 200m free, however, with the ace stopping the clock at 1:48.06 for gold.

Although well off his lifetime best of 1:44.38 from 2019, Rapsys was well ahead of Juska who secured silver in 1:49.95 as the only other sub-1:50 swimmer.

It was an all-Lithuanian podium, with Trepocka once again earning bronze, registering 1:50.16.

Juska enjoyed topping the podium once again, however, reaping the top spot in the 50m free.

Juska punched a result of 22.84 as the sole swimmer of the pack to clear the 23-second threshold. His outing represented the 8th-best time of his career, one that boasts a PB of 22.14 from his 2025 Euro Jrs gold medal-earning swim.

On the women’s side of the house, Lithuania’s Kotryna Teterevkova got it done for gold in the 100m breast.

The 24-year-old reaped gold decisively, hitting 1:07.87 to beat the pack by well over half a second.

Estonian Egle Salu snagged silver in 1:08.53 and Smilte Plytnykaite, teammate of Teterevkova, bagged the bronze in 1:08.96.

Plytnykaite, a University of Virginia commit, upgraded to gold in the 50m free. The 19-year-old registered 26.34 for a narrow victory ahead of Latvian swimmer Marta Ancane who got to the wall a hair behind in 26.47. Estonia’s Emily Jaarats rounded out the podium in 26.54.

Plytnykaite is competing on the heels of a decision made by an independent investigation determining that the Lithuanian Aquatics Association failed to adequately protect the star junior swimmer in a case involving alleged inappropriate communication by coach Paulius Andrijauskas. Additional winners included Andrius Sidlauskas, taking the men’s 50m breast in 27.51 and the 100m breast in 1:00.79, as Ieva Jurkuunaite posted 56.62 as the top women’s 100m freestyler.

Salu won the women’s 50m breast in 30.99, as Teterevkova hit 31.02 and Plytnykaite turned in 31.89 for the bronze medal.
