For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Sectionals finalist Wesley Drake has announced his verbal commitment to swim for Denison University in Ohio beginning in the fall of 2026.

“I’m ecstatic to announce the continuation of my academic and swim career at Denison University! I would like to thank my family for their love and support, my coaches and teammates at Lawrence North and Lawrence Swim Team for giving me the confidence to grow and succeed, and Coach Gregg and Coach Kellen for giving me the opportunity to swim at such a prestigious program. Go Big Red!”

The Indiana native is wrapping up his senior year at Lawrence North High School, where he swam for the varsity swimming and diving team all four years. Drake currently trains year-round with Lawrence Swim Team in Indianapolis, where he primarily specializes in distance free.

At the 2025 Indiana Swimming Senior Championships last March, Drake logged three new lifetime bests. He claimed the runner-up spot in the 1000 free (9:28.47) and 1650 free (15:55.57) and placed 4th in the 500 free (4:39.69), setting personal best times in each event. He also placed 27th in the 200 free (1:47.36).

Drake competed at the Speedo Sectionals (LCM) in Columbus over the summer, where he earned a second swim in the 400 free. He placed 12th in the 1500 free (16:40.30), 15th in the 800 free (8:49.03) and 19th in the 400 free (4:17.35) after posting a best time of 4:13.61 during prelims. He also contested the 200 free (2:02.95).

At the 2026 IHSAA (Indiana High School Athletic Association) Boys Sectional – Lawrence Central in February, Drake turned in a series of strong performances. He won the 500 free (4:42.82 – SB) and placed 3rd in the 200 free (1:44.87), and he logged a season-best time of 52.43 in the 100 free as the leadoff on the 400 free relay.

Drake lowered his personal best time in the 500 free a few weeks later at the 2026 IHSAA Boys State Championship. He placed 11th overall in 4:41.34 after posting a best time of 4:39.44 during the preliminary heats.

A Division III program, Denison competes in the North Coast Athletic Conference, with the men’s team winning its second straight conference championship title a few weeks ago. Based on the results from the 2026 NCAC Championships, Drake would have placed 4th in the 1650 free and would have landed in the ‘B’ final in the 200 free and 500 free, setting him up to be a key contributor right from the start.

On the team itself, Drake is poised to be the 2nd-fastest competitor in the 1000 free and 3rd-fastest competitor in the 1650 free next season, although that does not account for the other incoming freshmen.

“I chose Denison because of its strong pre-med program, the beautiful campus, and its dominance in distance freestyle at the D3 level,” Drake said. “I’m excited to be a part of a championship-caliber program and hope to be a part of their continued success.”

Currently set to join Drake in Granville in the fall are Cam Kline, Grant Goins and Benjamin Bricker, who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
