Aside from running her long-standing New York hotspot Butter and appearing frequently across Food Network's programming slate, celebrity chef Alex Guarnaschelli loves to take a moment to give back. So when the folks over at Nutella asked her to participate in their Stacks For Giving Back campaign for a third year in a row, she was happy to oblige.
Stacks for Giving Back is a program that was created to support local fire departments across the country. Through April 30, anyone can nominate their local fire department at NutellaStacksforGivingBack.com for a chance to receive one of the brands Nutella Pancake Breakfast Kits. These kits are designed to help a fire department make the most of its next pancake breakfast fundraising efforts.

"I love the program," Guarnaschelli tells Parade. "I don't think there's any group of people more worthy of support than first responders. The program is providing what I like to call amplified and delicious tools to enhance one of the fundamental fundraising components that firehouses rely upon, and that's pancake breakfasts."

The two are sharing their own cheffy spins on pancakes (using Nutella, of course) that firehouses can add to their repertoire during fundraising breakfasts. Guarnaschelli's recipe is Nutella Cornmeal and Fresh Raspberry Pancakes, while Petroni developed a recipe for Nutella Banana Bread Pancakes.

The Omelet Trick She Learned From a Co-star
Even the best chefs pick up a new technique or two from their colleagues, and one of Guarnaschelli's favorites is something she learned from Chef Geoffrey Zakarian.
"I feel like an omelet is something that you can make 5,000 times and always change or tweak and improve, because it's such a simple thing," she says. "So Geoffrey Zakarian made an omelet—poured the eggs in the pan, a little cheese, kind of scrambled it for a second, and then rolled it up. It was perfect. I was sitting there thinking, 'Oh, he's just gonna put it on the plate, and that's it.' But he grabbed a little tiny bit of butter, and he just ran the butter down the exterior of the omelet."
Guarnaschelli says it became an instantaneous core memory for her because, as simple as it sounds, she had never seen anybody do that, nor had she ever thought to finish an omelet off with butter.
"It made a wild difference to me in the taste and in the feel of it," she admits. "We're all in the business of overthinking things but it's the simple nuances like that which make all the difference. And I've buttered every omelet since."
Pancake breakfaster organizers, take note—aside from your Nutella pancakes, if you add an omelet station, don't forget the butter.
