Blake Shelton may be one of country music’s biggest stars, but even he admits he’s “not the sharpest knife in the drawer” sometimes.
In a new Instagram video filmed while doing farm work in Oklahoma on Monday, March 2, Shelton revealed he was listening to a local country station when he heard his initials in a song, “BS Free”. Curious, he turned up the volume—only to realize it was his longtime friend Luke Bryan’s new track.
“I actually had to look up what BFE means,” Shelton confessed, referencing the lyrics in Bryan’s song. The phrase “BS free and BFE” is meant to reference being out in the middle of nowhere, shorthand for “bum f**k Egypt,” a slang term for a remote location. But Shelton hilariously took the acronym literally.

The 49-year-old country star leaned into the bit, calling it a “risky and powerful lyric” and praising Bryan’s honesty, before encouraging fans to check out the track. “I'm proud of the guy. I love him,” Shelton added.
Fans got a kick out of the clip too.
“The way he said this with a straight face lmao,” one fan wrote.
Another joked, “BFE... best friend, ever!!!”
“I thought we're going to get the farming content but it's a comedy episode,” another noted.

The two country legends have an ongoing, yet friendly, rivalry. Earlier this year during his Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace, Shelton stopped mid-show to roast a fan for wearing Bryan’s merchandise. “You come to my show wearing Luke Bryan s**t?” Shelton teased before joking, “That guy’s an idiot!” He even poked fun at Bryan’s stage habits, quipping that the singer asks fans to sing along because he’s “too drunk to remember the words to his own song.”
Shelton and Bryan’s careers rose alongside one another in the late 2000s, and their playful trash talk only intensified during their time as coaches on The Voice.
In an October 2025 interview with CMT, Bryan, also 49, joked that their rivalry is the only thing keeping him motivated after the host pointed out he holds more No. 1 hits than Shelton. "That’s the only reason that I’m still in the game of country music, to stay ahead," Bryan quipped. "I thought he was retiring—he’s back putting songs out. It’s not the deal we had."
