Jewel Celebrates Anniversary of Debut Album with Baby Face Photos and Heartfelt Tribute

Jewel is looking back on 31 years with a music milestone that still stands today.

Taking to Instagram over the weekend the singer, 51, celebrated the 31st anniversary of her first album, 'Pieces of You,' sharing the long road she endured at the start of her career as well as behind-the-scenes photos from 1995.

"This little album that could," she wrote. "To this day it’s the best selling debut album of ALL TIME. How crazy is that? I was a feral Alaskan girl. I was homeless."

"I turned down a 1 million dollar signing bonus - all because I wanted to make an acoustic folk album at the height of grunge and I was pretty sure it would not be a huge success, and I wanted to de-risk it for the label so I would not get dropped if it did not perform well," she added. "So I could make the music I wanted , how I wanted. And it did fail. For two years."

"So I went to work. Over 1,000 shows a year. 5 and 6 shows a day- high schools, radio stations, parking lots, coffee shops, opening for Bauhaus and Peter Murphy and punk bands in rough clubs," she shared, explaining how she eventually "developed a grass roots following" and got her "big break" on Conan O'Brien's show.

"I began to get momentum and soon I was selling 1 million albums every month, for over 15 months," she shared. "What a wild ride! It is thanks to all of you for validating sensitive folk music in a world of male dominated grunge. I am so gratful [sic] to you all-more than you can ever know."

Fans swarmed the post's comment section, sharing their stories as to how the album and Jewel's subsequent music has resonated with them throughout the years and also noticed how young she looked in the photos she posted.

"Happy Anniversary, look at you baby face," one wrote.

"I know every lyric by heart! Still today," added another.

"I grew up with 'Pieces Of You," a third wrote. "I loved it. So grateful. Thank you for sharing it."

"To this day my favorite most influential album," another commenter said. "Your words struck such a deep connection and I STILL choose to sing your music over anyone else."

This isn't the first time the "Hands" singer has gotten sentimental on Instagram. Last year she posted a tribute to the song, "Who Will Save Your Soul," from the 1995 album, as it was the first song she ever wrote. Hit song "You Were Meant For Me" is also on the "Pieces of You" album. ? SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox ?
