No. 3 Gymnastics loses to No. 2 LSU

No. 3 Alabama gymnastics lost to No. 2 LSU on Friday evening in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 197.976-197.6.

“I am so incredibly proud of this team for the toughness, the grit, the resiliency that they showed,” Alabama head coach Ashley Johnston said. “That LSU crowd was loud, they were rowdy, and ‘Bama continued to answer by creating our own noise, our own momentum.”

    Rotation 1

As the away team, Alabama started on the uneven bars and LSU started on the vault. On the uneven bars, Alabama posted a 49.375. LSU made a 49.45 on the vault.

Alabama was on the floor for the third rotation, and LSU was on the balance beam. On the floor, Alabama posted a 49.5 to bring its total to 148.175. LSU made a 49.525 on the balance beam to bring its total to 148.375.

On the balance beam, Alabama’s highest scorer was sophomore Kylee Kvamme, who posted a 9.95. However, this was not enough to land Kvamme the title. LSU’s Chio posted a 10 on the balance beam to take the title.

The all-around title went to LSU’s Chio, who posted a 39.8.

The Crimson Tide will be back in action this Sunday at 3 p.m. CT. Alabama will take on LSU and the University of North Carolina in the P&G Podium Challenge. The meet will be at the Raising Cane’s River Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

“They are excited for a rematch. So Sunday they’re going to come in hungry and eager to continue to get better,” Johnston said.
