ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to 28 and a half years in prison for his role in a deadly shooting off Culver Road in January 2025.
Along with his prison sentence, Jawanza Abrams has also been sentenced to five years of post-release supervision.

On Jan. 26, 2025, Rochester Police officers found 23-year-old Jeremiah Maddox dead at a home on Ferris Street. A 19-year-old man was also taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower body that was not life-threatening.

Investigators say Abrams fired shots from the sidewalk into the home. They believe the shooting was over a dispute relating to “illegal activity” that the people who frequented the house and the suspect were involved in.
Abrams previously pleaded guilty to attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon for his role in Maddox’s death.
