2026 Virginia High School League Class 5 State Swimming and Diving Championships
Feb. 21, 2026 Richmond, VA SCY (25 yards) ResultsFirst Colonial was first two times at the Virginia High School League Class 5 State Swimming and Diving Championships.
After finishing as runner-up each of the last two seasons, the First Colonial boys’ team climbed to the top of the podium, finishing 38.5 points ahead of runner-up Freeman.
The girls’ team easily won its fifth title in the last seven years, finishing 120 points ahead of Midlothian.

Leading the way for First Colonial was senior Dara Duffy, an LSU commit who won two individual events and was a part of two winning relay teams.
Duffy first won the 200 free in a personal best 1:48.65, claiming the event after taking 2nd last year. She later repeated as champion in the 100 free with a time of 50.35.
In the 200 medley relay, Duffy swam a 22.88 anchor split to help First Colonial win in a time of 1:44.89. Other team members were Maggie Wright (26.55), Sydney Whiteman (29.85) and Maris Marchione (25.61).
Duffy also swam anchor in the 400 free relay, coming in with a split of 50.02 to help First Colonial win in 3:27.16. Other team members were Marchione (52.60), Wright (52.54) and Norah Everhart (52.00).
The other multi-event winners were a pair of sophomores, Lane Francis of Freeman and Maya McCarney of Potomac Falls.
Francis won the 50 free in a personal best 22.64, and then repeated as champion in the 100 back in a time of 53.67.
McCarney won the 200 IM in a personal best 2:02.84 and then captured the 100 breast in 1:02.45.
Other event winners were:
Deep Creek senior Sydney Holbach won the diving event with 413.80 points. Godwin sophomore Maddie Bynum captured the 100 fly in a time of 54.72. Mia Eubank, a junior from Godwin, won the 500 free in 4:52.14. In the 200 free relay, Freeman’s team of Charlotte White (24.93), Elianna Cue (25.22), Karina Blanco (24.68) and Francis (22.41) won in a time of 1:37.24.Girls’ Team Standings — Top 5

Before heading to swim in college for NC State, First Colonial senior Austin Temple ended his high school career in the best way possible with two individual wins and being a part of two winning relay teams.
Temple repeated as champion in both sprint freestyle events, taking the 50 free in 20.46 and the 100 free in 44.34.
Temple swam an anchor split of 20.23 to help First Colonial win the 200 free relay in a time of 1:24.32. Other team members were Chase Wilkerson (21.35), Tyler Newton (21.69) and Parker Knapp (21.05),
In the 400 free relay, Temple also swam the anchor leg, finishing with a split of 44.90 to help First Colonial win in a time of 3:04.50. The other team members were Wilkerson (46.36), Wilson Wood (47.68) and Knapp (45.56).
The other multi-event winners individually were James River senior Matthew Wolfle and Potomac Falls senior Joey Coleman.
Committed to Virginia Tech, Wolfle repeated as champion in both the 200 IM (1:47.88) and the 100 breast (54.36).
Coleman, who has committed to the Queens University in Charlotte, topped the field in the 200 free in a personal best of 1:37.31 after placing 5th last year.
He followed up by winning the 500 free in a personal best 4:27.42.
Other event winners were:
Menchville senior Jose McCauley won the 1-meter diving event with 309.30 points. Knapp, a junior who has committed to Texas A&M, won the 100 fly in a personal best 48.96. Brady Julian, a senior from Midlothian, won the 100 back in 49.89. The 200 medley relay was won by the James River team of Julian Zimmer (23.82), Billy Grau (24.88), Wolfle (22.79) and Malcolm Hess (21.76) in 1:33.25.Boys’ Team Standings — Top 5
