ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Team USA finished second overall at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. While the athletes who won gold are in the spotlight, News10NBC highlighted those who helped them feel like gold.
Dr. Sandeep Mannava from the University of Rochester was part of a team of physicians keeping Team USA healthy. News10NBC spoke with Mannava about his experience.
“We’re basically on call 24/7, so there’d be some early morning wakeups from athletes with various issues,” said Mannava.
“Food poisoning, aches and sprains of various knees and shoulder joints, even some minor fractures,” Mannava said. “So, a lot of time on our feet kind of triaging, taking care of our athletes, but thankfully we had a really great showing at these particular games with Team USA.”
Mannava was assigned to the U.S. ski jumping team, which placed first in mixed team aerials.
