SAN LEANDRO — A man unloading a truck suffered fatal injuries Tuesday morning when he was struck by a car that had been involved in a collision with another vehicle, police said.
The fatality happened in the 1700 block of Doolittle Drive.
Police said that based on initial reports, about 11:27 a.m. Tuesday a white Tesla Model and a red Dodge Ram truck were traveling southbound on Doolittle Drive in adjacent lanes. A collision occurred between the two vehicles, causing the Tesla to careen into the rear of a semi-truck that was being unloaded while parked facing southbound in the turn lane.
A man off loading the semi-truck was struck by the Tesla. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died. His identity was not released pending confirmation of his name and notification of his next of kin.
Neither vehicle driver sustained any injuries and both remained on the scene and spoke with investigators.
The exact cause of the initial collision is still under investigation but no impairment of either driver is suspected at this time, police said.
