Earlier this month Los Angeles City Councilmember Imelda Padilla celebrated the Grand Re-opening of Tobias Park, a public park that had serious problems including encampments and illegal dumping, and as Padilla said “unsafe conditions made it difficult for families to enjoy this vital neighborhood gathering place.”
Thanks to the Department of Recreation and Parks, LA Sanitation and the LAPD Mission Division, and her office, she notes that “the park has been restored as a safe, accessible and welcoming public space for the Panorama City community.”
The City of LA invested nearly $1 million in park improvements. The upgrades include new state-of-the-art fencing, a completely rebuilt playground, ADA-accessible walking paths, new landscaping, and resilient playground surfacing designed for long-term use and for children of all abilities.
Padilla said, “This reopening is a victory for Panorama City and a powerful example of what’s possible when we invest in neighborhoods and follow through.”
Traci Goldberg, Superintendent of Recreation and Parks, added, “Tobias Avenue Park is an important neighborhood asset, and these improvements ensure it can better serve families, youth, and seniors in the community. … (Padilla’s) leadership played a key role in bringing this project to completion, and we are excited to see the positive impact this park will have on the community.”
