ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Fire Department received multiple calls about a house fire at 874 Clifford Ave. around 10 a.m. on Sunday, stating they also had to prevent water from freezing during the response.
When the responders arrived at the scene, the temperature was reported to be minus four degrees, and all residents safely left the home.
The Rochester Police Department assisted at the scene by shutting down Clifford Avenue.
Due to the extreme cold, additional responders entered the scene, and the fire was reported as under control just before 10:30 a.m.
Then, the area of the incident was salted to stop water from freezing. This is a common practice, RFD says.
No firefighters were reported injured.
The American Red Cross also assisted at the scene, helping the displaced homeowner.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
