2026 DUBAI OPEN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Friday, February 6th – Sunday, February 8th Hamdan Sports Complex, Dubai, UAE LCM (50m) Meet Central Results: Meet Mobile – Dubai Open Swimming Championships – OC

The 2026 Dubai Open Swimming Championships is taking place this weekend at the Hamdan Sports Complex, with the three-day event featuring some of the world’s best swimmers.

Olympic medalists Siobhan Haughey of Hong Kong, Kyle Chalmers of Australia and James Guy of Great Britain were just a few of the high-profile athletes taking to the long course pool to kick off their 2026 calendar year of racing.

As for 28-year-old Haughey, she ripped a super swift outing of 1:54.85 to handily defeat the women’s 200m freestyle on day one to begin her Dubai Open campaign.

The versatile performer opened in 56.94 and closed in 57.91 to get the job done, with Abbie Wood of Great Britain next to the wall over three seconds behind in 1:58.16. Ellen Walshe of Ireland rounded out the podium in 1:59.50.

Haughey represents the 7th-best women’s 200m free performer of all time, courtesy of her national record of 1:53.92 put up at the 2020 Olympic Games. Remarkably, her time here equals the 1:54.85 she notched at November’s Chinese National Games to rank #1 in the world at the moment.

Haughey also took on the women’s 50m freestyle on day one, collecting gold in an impressive time of 24.67, a new competition record.

She represented the sole swimmer of the field to delve under the 25-second barrier. 20-year-old Aleksandra Kuznetsova of Russia snagged silver in 25.40 and GBR’s Lauren Cox bagged the bronze in 26.06.

As for Haughey, her time here checked in as the 6th-swiftest time of her career, one which boasts a lifetime best of 24.30 from the 2023 World Championships.

Finally, Haughey tried both the women’s 50m breast and 50m fly on for size during day two’s agenda.

In the former, Haughey settled for silver in 30.83, about half a second outside winner Lara van Niekerk‘s gold medal-worthy time of 30.26. Wood placed 3rd, well behind in 32.50.

Van Neikerk’s outing nabbed a new season-best, ranking the South African 3rd in the world.

Kuznetsova was the 50m fly victor as a result of her time of 26.59. The Russian narrowly defeated Egyptian national record holder Farida Osman who touched in next in 26.64 as Haughey was immediately behind in 26.87.

30-year-old Guy appeared in multiple events on the men’s side, with his day one plan including the 200m freestyle.

The Olympic multi-medalist reaped success with a speedy result of 1:46.35 to get to the wall over two seconds ahead of the field.

Russian Ivan Girev posted 1:48.89 as the silver medalist and 19-year-old Rohayem Tolba of the host nation produced a monster personal best of 1:50.09 to also land on the podium.

Guy’s time inserts him into the season’s world rankings in slot #7.

Guy’s next victim was the 400m free on day two, where the British national record holder nabbed the top prize in a time of 3:49.27.

That kept Tolba at bay, with the teen posting 3:53.23 for silver and Aussie Tommy Lane hit 3:55.07 for bronze.

Guy had included the 400m free in his repertoire of racing for most of his career, earning silver at the 2015 World Championships, although he took a break from the event and just recently started swimming it again last year.

Egor Kornev of Russia threw down an impressive time of 21.72 to take the men’s 50m freestyle over Olympic champion Chalmers.

New dad Chalmers turned in a time of 22.02, the 4th-best of his career and Omar Radwan rounded out the podium in 22.51.

Kornev’s lifetime best remains at the 21.43 he registered for gold at last year’s Russian National Championships. His time here rendered him just outside the top 5 performers in the world this season.

Kornev also struck gold in the men’s 50m fly, producing a new lifetime best of 23.05 to beat the stacked field.

Chalmers settled for silver once again in 23.26 and GBR’s Jacob Peters logged 23.45, good enough for bronze.

Kornev’s time sliced .06 off his previous PB of 23.11 posted for silver at last year’s Sette Colli Trophy. He now ranks 3rd in the world at the moment.

    Additional Notes

Van Niekerk got it done for gold in the women’s 100m breaststroke, with her mark of 1:07.75 defeating her competitors by over 4 seconds. Two-time Olympic medalist Arno Kamminga of the Netherlands proved too quick to catch in the men’s 100m breast, with the 30-year-old veteran registering 1:00.15. 18-year-old Evangelos Efraim Ntoumas of Greece, the 4th-place finisher in this event at the 2025 World Junior Championships, secured silver in 1:00.66. Michael Houlie of South Africa also landed on the podium in 1:01.32, good enough for bronze. 25-year-old Houlie upgraded to gold, however, in the 50m breast race. He stopped the clock at 26.89 to nab the 4th-best performance of his career. That held off Belarusian Ilya Shymanovich who hit 27.28 and Kamminga who clocked 27.50 for bronze. Olympic medalist Daiya Seto was far off his best in the men’s 200m IM but his outing of 2:00.02 was still fast enough to win gold over his competitors by over 4 seconds. Another decisive win came in the women’s 100m backstroke where Britain’s Cox posted a time of 1:00.37 to clear the pack by nearly 2 seconds. Walshe was yet another big-time champion, with her time of 2:12.51 beating the women’s 200m fly field by a massive 12 seconds. Walshe also topped the women’s 200m IM podium, although by a much narrower margin. The Irish national record holder touched in 2:11.47, with Wood right behind in 2:11.76.
