What was the best time of your life? Where were you? Who were you with? What were you doing?
More importantly… why aren’t you doing that right now?
I meet with seniors across Colorado every week, many of whom’ve worked hard, raised families, built successful lives, and now find themselves wondering, “What’s next?” Or worse, “Is it too late for more?”
Here’s my honest belief: your best days don’t have to be behind you.
In fact, the most meaningful years, the ones where you get to choose what you want to do, when you want to do it, may be happening right now.
But to take advantage of them, four key areas in your life must align. When they do, it’s like unlocking a golden window of opportunity, and if you’re not careful, that window can quietly close.
Let’s talk about the 4 Pillars of Living Your Best Life:
1. Time
Do you have time freedom? Are your days your own? Most retirees finally step off the treadmill of the 9-to-5 workday, but the irony is, once we have time, we often lack something else…
2. Money
Do you have the financial ability to go and do the things you dream about…travel, hobbies, spoiling the grandkids, even just enjoying local life in Fort Collins or Boulder or wherever you are? Too many people are equity-rich and cash-poor. They have plenty of money… It’s just locked in their home.
3. Health
Are you physically able to go hiking, skiing, golfing, playing pickleball, volunteering, or just moving freely throughout your day? Health is the wild card, too often we wait until we “feel ready” financially, but by then our health has declined.
4. Desire
Do you still have the passion and energy to live fully? Let’s be honest, the drive to do something fades if you feel limited by money or health. But when those things align, so does motivation.
Now here’s the secret: These 4 pillars rarely align all at once until you’re well into your 50s. For some, it’s not until you are in your 60s. But for most people, the window closes before 80.
So, here’s the big question I want you to sit with today: Are YOU in that window?
Do you have the time, money, health and desire to live your best life…right now?
If your answer is yes, then the follow-up is: What’s stopping you?
And if your answer is no, then I’d still ask: What’s stopping you from getting there?
Let me offer one possible solution to the “money” part of that equation: A reverse mortgage.
If you’re 55 or older and own your home, you may be sitting on a sizable nest egg that you can’t touch, at least not easily. A reverse mortgage helps you tap into that home equity without giving up ownership, without selling and without making monthly mortgage payments.
It’s not for everyone, but it might be precisely what you need to turn “maybe someday” into “let’s book the trip.”
Here’s what I know for sure:
You can’t take your home with you.
You can’t get time back.
You can’t make memories if you’re stuck worrying about finances.
If you’re waiting for the “perfect time” to enjoy life, let me gently say: That time is right now.
Don’t wait until the window closes, until health or desire fades, and all that’s left is the “what ifs.”
If money is what’s stopping you, let’s talk. A reverse mortgage could be the key to making your golden years shine even brighter.
