It was two different types of victories, but it was a championship sweep nonetheless for Marist School at the Georgia High School Association 4A State Championships.

    The Marist boys won their 11th overall championship and first since 2022 by the narrowest of margins, accumulating a final score of 319 to edge out second-place Northview by just four points.

    Third-place North Oconee (304) and fourth-place Westminster (300.5) weren’t far behind.

    The girls’ event wasn’t as dramatic, as Marist finished with 485 points, well ahead of runner-up Midtown (322).

    The individual standout was Midtown junior Sarah Paisley Owen, a Notre Dame commit who sent personal bests to win the 200 free (1:46.19) and the 100 fly (53.30).

    Paisley Owen was also a part of two winning relay teams.

    In the 200 medley relay, the Marist team of Avery Wells (27.64), Rhea El-Deiry (29.48), Paisley Owen (23.32) and Aerin Jones (25.06) topped the field in a time of 1:45.50.

    The 400 free relay was won by the Marist team of Wells (53.58), Dabney Bond (54.81), El-Deiry (53.27), and Paisley Owen (48.09) in a time of 3:29.75.

    In the 200 free relay, the Marist team of Abby Jacob (23.80), Sarah White (24.78), EA Cophenhaver (24.32) and Linden Corbett (24.06) won in a time of 1:36.96.

    The other individual standout was Southwest DeKalb senior Pilar King, an Arizona commit. King swam a personal best time of 1:46.19 to win the 200 free, and then won the 100 back in 54.29.

    Other individual winners were:

    North Oconee junior Tessa Steder won the 200 IM in a time of  2:04.84. Westminster freshman Reid Adams took home the diving title with 497.50 points. East Forsyth sophomore Adele Sankowski topped the field in the 100 free with a time of 51.53. Westminster junior Greta Myers, a Princeton commit, won the 500 free in a personal best time of 4:52.92. In the 100 breast, Marist sophomore Annalise Morris took the title with a time of 1:04.33.

    Boys’ Recap

    While Marist won the team competition, the two individual standouts were Northview senior Ashton Tan and Westminster junior Connor Christopherson, a Stanford commit.

    Tan won the 200 IM in 1:50.43 and the 100 fly in 49.72, while Christopherson set a personal best time of 19.68 to win the 50 free before later capturing the 500 free in 4:26.73.

    Northview captured two of the three relays.

    In the 200 medley relay, the team of Ethan Pure (24.35), Jason Park (25.94), Tan (21.86), and Daniel Wu (21.20) took first in a time of 1:33.35.

    Later in the 400 free relay, the same quartet,  but in a different order, won in a time of 3:06.33, with that team featuring Tan (45.93), Park (47.23), Wu (47.07) and Pure (46.10).

    The 200 free relay was won by Westminster’s team of Eric Jiang (22.62), Chase Myers (22.63), Darrel Xiao (21.79), and Christopherson (19.54) in 1:26.58.

    Other individual winners were:

    North Oconee junior Joseph Rhine won the 200 free in 1:39.93. Saint Pius Catholic junior Ryland Gummere captured the diving event with 553.40 points. Marist senior, Cannon Martenson, a Yale commit, won the 100 free in a personal best 44.57. Westminster senior Max Rodbell captured the 100 back in 49.32. Blessed Trinity sophomore Will Kaminsky swam a time of 56.23 to win the title in the 100 breast.
