Donald Trump has prompted outrage after posting a video on social media featuring Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys.
The US President shared the one-minute conspiracy video overnight featuring false claims about election fraud.
Towards the end of the video, the faces of the Obamas – the first black US president and first lady – were shown superimposed onto monkeys, dancing to the song The Lion Sleeps Tonight.
The video, posted on the first week of Black History Month, has drawn widespread condemnation.
The office of Gavin Newsom, the Democratic California Governor who is pitching himself for a 2028 presidential run, posted on X: “Disgusting behavior by the President. Every single Republican must denounce this. Now.”
Ben Rhodes, a former deputy national security adviser and close confidant of Obama during his presidency, also condemned the video.

UN Diplomat Mohamad Safa denounced the video as “racism in its ugliest form”.
He said: “This type of speech, whether international or local, that fuels racism and hatred is unacceptable in our world today. We are no longer heirs to the generations that pushed back the tide of fascism and racism.”
On Friday the White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed the appalled response to the video “fake outrage”.
She told US media: “This is from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from the Lion King. Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public.”
Trump has a long history of levelling abuse against the Obamas. He previously fuelled a conspiracy theory that Hawaii-born Obama was not born in the US.
