GREECE, N.Y. — Three people are charged with evidence tampering after Greece Police say they lied in their accounts after a bar customer became unconscious after drinking and hitting his head.
That customer, 68-year-old John Acito, died two weeks later. Police say the staff members waited at least half an hour to call 911 after Acito passed out at Dave’s Long Pond Pub on Long Pond Road on Dec. 17.
According to police, staff members said they found Acito in the parking lot and brought him inside the bar. However, investigators say they found surveillance video of Acito drinking inside the bar past 2 a.m. and hitting his head on the table and the floor.
According to investigators, instead of calling 911 immediately, staff put Atico’s jacket on and moved him toward the front door, making it look like they found him outside the bar. At that time, Atico was unconscious but still breathing. Investigators also say staff provided false information on the status of the bar’s surveillance cameras.
Acito died on Jan. 1. The medical examiner said his death was accidental and due to his head injuries. The medical examiner also determined that the delay in calling 911 likely didn’t contribute to his death. These three were charged and are set to appear in Greece Town Court:
