Nate Oats proved again this week that he’s no social media savant.
The Alabama head coach has repeatedly stated that he does not have Twitter on his phone and doesn’t dabble in social media during the basketball season. Only some of his assistant coaches are connected to social media, and that’s only for recruiting reasons.
That might be the reason why, when asked about Florida head coach Todd Golden’s remarks that he recently made on his radio show about Alabama and the Charles Bediako saga, Oats genuinely didn’t know what was said. Well, what was said by Golden on that radio show when asked about the challenge of facing Bama and Bediako on Sunday was: “We’re gonna beat them anyways.”
The 23rd-ranked Crimson Tide and 19th-ranked Gators will square off in Gainesville at 1 p.m. ET on ABC in an SEC showdown on the first day of February that promises to be as intriguing on the court as it’s been off the court in the leadup to the battle. The game promises to have a lot of answers by both teams, back and forth, and Oats had his own answer to Golden’s brash comments.
After explaining, again, that he was previously unaware of Golden’s comments, Oats was told of those comments and then said to reporters: “They’re the defending national champs. They should be planning on beating us. That’s how it’s supposed to look. … He should be trying to kick our butt whether we have Charles or not.”

— The Next Round (@NextRoundLive) January 30, 2026Making this matchup so much spicier is that Oats will indeed have Bediako on Sunday afternoon, and that is sure to make an SEC game in early February feel like so much more.
It’ll be those defending national champions from Gainesville against the Crimson Tide program that got to its first ever Final Four in 2024.
Everyone will be ready for one of the most anticipated SEC regular-season games in recent memory.
