“Pokémon Go’s” second-biggest event of the year is less than a month away, and Niantic has spiced up what was looking like an unexciting Precious Paths season and Pokémon Go Tour: Kalos.
First off, players will be getting two new Mega Evolutions. Mega Victreebel and Mega Malamar, two evolutions found in the latest game “Pokémon Legends: Z-A,” will be part of the Kalos Tour, and they will arrive earlier for players who attend the in-person events from Feb. 20 to 22 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and Tainan, Taiwan.
Meanwhile, after the in-person event, Niantic will generate more excitement for the free global version of Pokemon Go Tour: Kalos on Feb. 28 with the Road to Kalos event, running from Feb. 23 to Feb. 27. It will feature the main legendaries from the previous events along with costumed Pikachus associated with them. Some of those electric mouse variants will be new. They include the ones wearing Red’s hat and Leaf’s hat from Kanto and Ethan’s hat and Lyra’s hat from Johto.
It’s going to be a great way for completionists to collect Pikachus they may have been missing if they started late. Meanwhile, the legendaries for each region will have the special moves associated with them. It’s a good way to grab Sky Attack Moltres, Thundershock Zapdos and Hurricane Articuno. The Kyogres will know Origin Pulse and Groudons will know Precipice Blades. Meanwhile, Reshiram will know Fusion Flare and Zekrom will know Fusion Bolt. The more important one is Kyurem, which will know Glaciate. That move is needed to unlock Ice Burn and Freeze Shock for their fused forms.
Sadly, Origine Forme Dialga and Origine Forme Palkia will have a chance to know Roar of Time and Spatial Rend, those two Adventure Effect moves are still the best ones in the game. RAID OVERVIEW For the Road to Kalos event, those costumed Pikachu and legendaries will be appearing in raids each day, punctuated by a raid hour from 6 to 7 p.m. Players also have a chance to earn a special background for catches. All the Pokémon can be shiny. The schedule goes as follows:
Feb. 23 — Kanto: Pikachu wearing Red’s hat (new), Pikachu wearing Leaf’s hat (new), Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres.
Feb. 24 — Johto: Pikachu wearing Red’s hat (new), Pikachu wearing Leaf’s hat (new), Shadow Lugia and Shadow Ho-Oh
Feb. 25 — Hoenn: Pikachu wearing Brendan’s hat, Pikachu wearing May’s bow, Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon
Feb. 26 — Sinnoh: Pikachu wearing Lucas’s hat, Pikachu wearing Dawn’s hat, Pikachu wearing Rei’s cap, Pikachu wearing Akari’s kerchief, Dialga, Palkia, Origin Forme Dialga and Origin Forme Palkia.
Feb. 27 — Unova: Pikachu wearing Hilbert’s hat, Pikachu wearing Hilda’s hat, Pikachu wearing Nate’s visor, Pikachu wearing Rosa’s visor, Reshiram, Zekrom, White Kyurem and Black Kyurem. The Pokemon Go Pass: Road to Kalos rewards include a Lucky Trinket. (Niantic) SPAWN OVERVIEW As for regular pocket monsters, each day will also feature the starters from each region and wild Pokémon tied to each region. It’s a good way to grab a shiny version that you may be missing in your collection. Here’s what I recommend focusing on when it comes to shinies.
Feb. 23 — Kanto: Pikachu, Clefairy and Meowth. Out of those three, Meowth is the most difficult to grab. The Scratch Cat Pokemon was available as a shiny for the original Go Tour, but only if players chose the Green path in the in-game quest line.
Feb. 24 — Johto: Marill, Hoppip and Teddiursa. The latter two have had Community Days while Marill was in a few events.
Feb. 25 — Hoenn: Poochyena, Taillow, and Nincada. All of these have been featured as part of events, and they’ve been around long enough that players could trade for them.
Feb. 26 — Sinnoh: Bidoof, Shinx, and Snover. All of these have been in events. The shiny version of Bidoof is the most difficult to find. Shinx had a Community Day and Snover could be found in raids and other activities.
Feb. 27 — Unova: Lillipup, Darumaka, and Gothita. Darumaka has been featured in events such as Lunar New Year while Lillipup has been available for a long time and has been a common spawn. Gothita has been the most difficult to get.
Along with the special Pokémon, players will also have bonuses. It includes ½ egg hatch distance, so it’s smart to hoard those 12km and 10km eggs before the event. Players will also have timed research opportunities to earn costumed Pikachus. Field Research Tasks are more notable. Players can earn Candy and Candy XL for the raid bosses of that day. That’s going to be really helpful for Feb. 26, which features Palkia and Dialga. Players should focus on completing tasks on those days to get as much candy for their valuable Adventure Effects.
Lastly, the celebration will have an additional Go Pass and Go Pass Deluxe with it. The Go Pass Deluxe could be worth it for the Lucky Trinket to guarantee a lucky trade, but more importantly, if players hit the milestones, they can have a better chance at catching a shiny Scatterbug, which is one of the rare Pokémon in the game because it’s tied to gifts.
