The group, in what is regarded as its classic era, produced such hits as "My Girl" (1964)—which became their first U.S. No. 1 single—"Ain't Too Proud to Beg" (1966), "Just My Imagination" (1971), "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" (1972), and many more.
Over time, they became one of the most successful groups of all time with 4 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles and 14 Billboard R&B No. 1 singles. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, The Temptations also topped Billboard's 100 Greatest R&B/Hip-Hop Artists of All Time list in 2023.
