With the 2026 recruiting class drawing to a close, ESPN produced a story discussing some superlatives for the cycle on Thursday.
Recruiting analysts were asked a number of questions about top prospects in the 2026 class. Among them: Who is the most college-ready quarterback in the class? ESPN’s Craig Haubert and Tom Luginbill say it’s Florida signee Will Griffin.
Here’s their analysis on Griffin, who is an early-enrollee for the Gators:
At 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, Griffin physically looks the part of a Power 4 starter and has logged enough high-level reps to help with the transition in Gainesville. He showed great poise and toughness against college-level competition at the Under Armour Next game as an underclassman, even when things weren’t going well around him. Griffin has the arm strength to drive the ball to all levels and functional mobility similar to Fernando Mendoza. His physical readiness, experience and Florida’s unsettled quarterback competition make him well-equipped to step in right away.
Griffin was the No. 222 overall player and the No. 14 quarterback in the country for the 2026 cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. Griffin is from Tampa and has been committed to Florida since June of 2024. The transition from Billy Napier to Jon Sumrall did not ultimately have an impact on his college destination.

As for the 2026 season, Griffin is expected to be part of a quarterback competition that includes Georgia Tech transfer Aaron Philo. The former Yellow Jacket may have a leg up, as he’s previously worked with new Florida offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner at Georgia Tech.
Florida is hoping to take a big step forward in 2026 during Sumrall’s first season in charge.
