Rush fans in San Jose will have to wait a little longer to see the band take the stage.
Alex Lifeson announced that the group was canceling its concert tonight, October 17, after drummer Anika Nilles’ illness worsened.
In a video shared to Instagram hours before the show, the guitarist said Nilles had been sick when Rush played its first San Jose show earlier in the week. She was in the early stages of the flu but managed to perform, Lifeson explained, calling her effort “a testament to her willpower.”
“Over the last couple of days, she’s gotten a lot worse, and unfortunately, we’re gonna have to cancel the show tonight,” he said. “It’s a real bummer; we’re crestfallen.”
View this post on InstagramThe show has been rescheduled for December 6, 2026, according to the band’s Instagram caption. Previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date. Lifeson said the group hopes Nilles will recover over the next four or five days, adding that they will do their best to return to San Jose and put on “a fabulous show.”
“Again, really, really sorry, these things happen,” he said. “It’s flu season.”
For the most part, fans were understanding—but still disappointed.
“Al’s the best. You can tell that he is legitimately devastated,” one fan noted.

“So sorry to hear. Worth the wait though. Anika take care and get better,” another said.
A third wrote, “I think we’re all just so happy that you’re back and you are having fun. To be honest Rush doesn’t owe anybody anything and we’re all just delighted to hear this music again.”
The cancellation comes during Rush’s Fifty Something tour, the band’s first run of shows in more than a decade. Lifeson and bassist-vocalist Geddy Lee are joined on the road by Nilles, who has also performed with Jeff Beck, and keyboardist Loren Gold, known for touring with The Who and Chicago.
The tour marks Rush’s return to the stage following the 2020 death of longtime drummer Neil Peart. The band’s two-set shows draw from a catalog of more than 40 songs and celebrate Peart’s life and legacy. Peart died at 67 after a three-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
