By Keith Dunlap on SwimSwam

Texas commit Rowan Cox is making the most of his final days as a high school swimmer.

The James Bowie High School senior won two events at a University Interscholastic League 6A district meet on Jan. 22 and 23, capturing the 100 back in 48.55 and the 100 fly in 49.18.

He also led off Bowie’s victorious 200 medley relay with a 21.91 leadoff leg, guiding them to a final time 1:32.99.

He was joined by Javier Gutierrez Jaimes (26.73), Walker Aitchison (22.19) and Alex Eland (22.16).

The performance by Cox at the district meet came two weeks after he performed well at the ST TXLA New Year’s Classic in Austin, his future college home.

Cox won the 200 back(1:43.42),200 breast ( 2:02.39) and the 200 fly (1:43.92), all in personal best times.

The time in the 200 fly moved Cox up to 5th in the boys’ 17-18 age group (SCY) and his performance in the 200 back moved him to 17th.

Texas high school district meets are currently underway with the top-six finishers in each event in 6A and 5A, and the top-four finishers in 4A & below, advancing to upcoming regional meets.

The state meet for 4A & below teams is scheduled for Feb. 12-13, while the state meet for 5A and 6A teams is slated for Feb. 20-21.

Cox wasn’t the only standout so far in district meets:

Texas A&M commit Ella McWhorter won a pair of events in a district for Keller High School, capturing the girls’ 100 breast (1:02.26) and the 200 IM (2:03.68). SMU commit Emma Bibza of Carroll Senior High won two events at the same district, taking the girls’ 200 free (1:50.97) and the 100 fly (55.38).
