PENN YAN, N.Y. — Keuka College was put on lockdown overnight as Yates County sheriff’s deputies and New York State troopers investigated a report of a suspicious person trying to enter a building.
The sheriff’s office says the school lockdown was lifted after it determined there was no threat. Deputies responded just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday after learning about a conversation taking place on the social media platform YikYak, saying a man with a backpack and a gun was walking around the campus.
Deputies and troopers searched the campus and conducted interviews for several hours before lifting the lockdown. The sheriff’s office says it will continue to investigate the source of the suspicious person report.
