But after months of avid fan outcry, the popular Mexican chain has confirmed the fan-favorite menu item's return to nationwide locations later this winter.
According to a new press release shared with us over email, the menu item's return will officially come on Tuesday, February 10. As with its previous debuts, the spice-filled chicken will only be available for a limited time.
Originally introduced to Chipotle's lineup back in 2023 as a limited-time offering, Chicken al Pastor quickly became one of the most popular protein choices fans could order at the Mexican restaurant.
As further evidence of its popularity, the dish ultimately returned to Chipotle for a short time in 2024, before once again vanishing and leaving fans absolutely devastated.
Fortunately, with that being said, the announcement that Chicken al Pastor will be coming back to Chipotle locations has been met with an altogether thunderous applause from longtime supporters of the restaurant.
On Chipotle's official Instagram page, fans overwhelmingly expressed their desire to set the dish return in a teaser post made by the brand, hinting at the Chicken al Pastor's imminent comeback.
"Omggggg AL PASTORRRR," enthused one fan, tacking on multiple fire emoji signs. "My love for chipotle and al pastor is eternal," added another, similarly enthusiastic fan.
"Chicken al Pastor built a passionate following, so we had to bring it back to the menu for our fans," said Stephanie Perdue, Interim Chief Marketing Officer of Chipotle, in the company's press release. "We’ve seen thousands of comments asking for its return because the unique, bold flavor goes perfectly with their favorite Chipotle order."
Chicken al Pastor's return to Chipotle comes at a notably exciting time for the brand. As part of its ongoing menu innovation plans for 2026, the item's comeback marks yet another bold step forward for the company as they continue to tweak their menu moving into the new year.
