Olivia Wilde is taking a bold stand against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after the Minneapolis murder of 37-year-old Alex Pretti, the second protester to be shot and killed this month.
During her red carpet appearance at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday, Wilde—who was promoting the Seth Rogen comedy she directed, The Invite—wore an "ICE OUT" pin and shared her thoughts about the "appalling" state of the country.
"We're all here getting to celebrate something really beautiful and hopeful in film storytelling," she told Variety. "But the world is hurting right now, and this country is hurting, and it's appalling."
Wilde continued, adding that she feels "appalled and sickened" by what's happening in Minneapolis and in cities across the country as ICE continues to raid neighborhoods.
"We can't go another day just sort of accepting this as our new norm," she said. "It's outrageous. People are being murdered. And, I don't want to normalize seeing people being murdered on the internet. On film. It's. It's hideous. And so if we can do anything out here to support the movement to cast ICE out, to delegitimize this unbelievably criminal organization, then that's what we should be doing."
She also added that it's been "inspiring" to see the anti-ICE protests happening around the country.
"I think so many Americans are [speaking out]," she continued. "I mean, you see the marches happening around the country. Americans are speaking up in huge numbers, and it's dangerous to be a protester now, and people are still going out to the streets, which is incredibly inspiring."
Wilde has long been vocal about her political views, using her platform to advocate for progressive causes and social justice. Over the years, she has spoken out about immigration reform, gun control, voter access, and women’s rights, often urging her fans to stay informed and politically engaged.
Wilde has long criticized policies that she believes harm marginalized communities, emphasizing the importance of civic responsibility and not remaining silent in moments of crisis. She has consistently framed activism as a moral obligation, especially for those with visibility and influence.
