Oh where or where have the Christians gone?
I just read a Jan. 21, 2026, opinion piece in the Atlantic by Peter Wehner called “Maga Jesus is Not the Real Jesus.” He cites examples of the Department of Justice using scripture in their ICE recruiting messaging targeting young “Christian” men.
Mr. Wehner states: “The most recent DHS video quotes from Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount: ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God …’ The message the Trump administration is sending is not subtle: ICE is doing the work of God. The brutal and sometimes lethal tactics being used by a growing number of ICE agents are divinely sanctioned. Come join this holy campaign.”
I am a Christ-follower and believe I am to reflect Jesus in every part of my life, in and out of church. And I know I’m not alone, but I feel like I am. What I can’t seem to reconcile right now is why the Christian church leadership in our towns and cities are not horrified by what is being done by this current administration in the name of Jesus. Why are they not using their platforms to say clearly that what ICE is doing is wrong and that the DOJ messaging is not consistent with who Jesus is!
I am desperate to be part of a Christian group that stands publicly and says NO, this is not right, this is not Jesus! But I can’t find one. Jesus wouldn’t call a woman a “f…ing b…”, break into a man’s house to drag him out, or detain a 5-year-old child. Where are you, Christians? Where are you, pastors, priests and Christian leaders? Where is your courage? Jesus would not be silent!
