Day 2 of the Chicago Bears offseason. I woke up, saw it was 6 degrees outside, and questioned the life decisions that led me to this point. Is dealing with a bitter winter easier when you have football games to look forward to dissecting? That is a question I’ll ponder throughout the morning.
On this date in 2025, Ben Johnson and the Bears did a thing:

— Bleacher Nation Bears (@bn-bears.bsky.social) January 20, 2025 at 2:50 PM Do you remember how you felt the moment you saw the news? I’d love to hear about it in the comments. My initial reaction was excitement. The Bears completed a task they had sought out to do, which was something that hadn’t been done much by this franchise in my lifetime. Ben Johnson was always their target. And rather than deviate from the plan, they pushed hard and got their guy. They even beat out other teams with compelling pitches. If this partnership goes as we hope, we will look back fodly on Jan. 20, 2025 as one of the most important dates in franchise history.BN BEARS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Twitter | Blue Sky
My other feeling after the news broke was one of relief. We, as a site, had been in the crosshairs of a Bears coaching search since Black Friday. This team was connected to so many different coaching candidates that it was almost impossible to keep count. There were offensive and defensive coordinators, Super Bowl winning coaches, second-chance candidates, college candidates, and more. I wasn’t sure how we’d make it through to the other side. But somehow, we did it. And you folks were reading all of it. So, for that, I am thankful. We’ve built a nice little community of ball knowers here, so I’m glad we were able to go through that process together. Hopefully, we won’t have to go through that again for a long time.If you were wondering how the postgame handshake between Ben Johnson and Sean mcVay went, here you go:

— NFL (@NFL) January 19, 2026 Two questions: (1) Is Ben Johnson just playing up the Matt LaFleur beef to juice up the Bears-Packers rivalry? (2) If he isn’t, then what in the world did the Green Bay head coach do to catch that heat? Every long-standing rivalry has a backstory. Perhaps this one does, too. LaFleur should be too busy trying to find a defensive coordinator after Jeff Hafley took his talents to South Beach to be the Miami Dolphins head coach. The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman has 10 candidates to keep an eye on in Green Bay’s search for Hafley’s replacement. And, yes, Bears DBs Coach Al Harris is on the list.PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO THE BN BEARS PODCAST: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
It sure sounds like the Bears will certainly need a new running backs coach, with NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reporting that signs are pointing toward Eric Bieniemy’s return to the Kansas City Chiefs as their new offensive coordinator. I’m not well versed in running back coaches, so I’ll spend some time later today digging into possible candidates. Considering how much of an influence Bieniemy was in raising the profile of the RBs room, this figures to be an important hire. Mandatory Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images The Titans have found their next coach, but it isn’t who you might have been expecting. San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh is the next man up in Tennessee, according to reporting from ESPN’s Turron Davenport. The Titans met with Saleh and Matt Nagy on Monday, with Saleh being the choice. There had been plenty of buzz surrounding the possibility of Matt Nagy being the choice, especially with GM Mike Borgonzi being someone who Nagy knew well and had a history with from their time with the Chiefs. With Eric Bieniemy set to become K.C.’s next offensive coordinator, Nagy could be left on the outside looking in when it comes to a coaching gig. It has been lost in the madness while our focus has been elsewhere, but there has been quite a Matt Nagy image rehabilitation tour going on in recent weeks. The Athletic’s Dan Pompei wrote about how Nagy hopes to be better if he gets a second opportunity. CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones also has anecdotes about how Nagy used anonymous feedback to help turn the page on his past and prepare for another head-coaching opportunity. That is a good thing when a coach puts in effort to learn from their past. But Nagy might need another coordinator job before he proves to be a worthy head coaching candidate again. A friend asked me to predict which coaches would fill the remaining vacancies. I told them I’d sleep on it. After sleeping on it, this is what I came up with: Brian Daboll (Bills), Mike McCarthy (Steelers), Brian Flores (Ravens), Mike McDaniel (Raiders), Grant Udinski (Browns), and Matt Nagy (Cardinals). There is a part of me that wants to predict something off the board, like Mike Tomlin (Buccaneers) and Sean McDermott (Eagles) getting head coaching gigs in 2027. But it feels way too early to make that kind of pull. The Indiana Hoosiers are college football national champions after defeating the University of Miami on Monday. Not only did this play deliver a signature moment, it might be what ultimately tips the scales and makes Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft:With Tom Brady, John Spytek and Mark Davis watching … pic.twitter.com/6ZACu3rIO2
