Day 2 Finals Heat Sheet

We will kick off Tuesday night’s finals session with the 100 free, where all 8 of the girls’ ‘A’ finalists posted between 56.2 and 56.5 in prelims. Top-seeded Adalyn Biegler will be in lane 4 with 56.25. On the boys’ side, Micah Tennison entered the meet with the #1 seed time (49.53), but Luka Mijatovic put up the fastest swim of the morning, leading the field in 49.99.

In the 400 IM, Emerson Callis (4:48.58) and Zadie Schatz (4:49.15) were the lone sub-4:50s out of heats and will battle for the girls’ title in tonight’s final. Syunta Lee (4:19.52) paced the boys in heats, while Cullen Kahl (4:21.96) was the only other swimmer to break 4:22.

There will be tight battles in the 50 breast finals tonight. Brenley Bonez (31.96), Kate Canales (31.20), and Ella McWhorter (32.21) led the qualifiers for the girls’ ‘A’ final, while Neil Adamski (27.39), Reef McMeeking (28.21), and Sam Wolf (28.33) topped the field among the boys.

Girls’ 100 Meter Freestyle – Finals

Podium:

Adalyn Biegler, who came into the meet as the top seed in the 100 free, led the field from start to finish in the final. She flipped at 26.81 at the halfway mark, .10 ahead of Laila Harran in lane 1. Anna Shnowske was just behind with 27.05.

Biegler came home in 28.92 to stop the clock at 55.73 for the win. Shnowske went 28.90 to pass from 3rd at the 50 to 2nd at the finish, notching a 55.95 for the only other sub-56. Northwestern commit Lucy Velte had the fastest back half of the heat, going 28.80 which pulled her from 5th to 3rd place overall.

Harran was able to hang on for 4th place. She came to the wall in 56.15, touching out NC State commit Emily Wolf, Arizona State commit Alyssa Albertyn, Alyssa Ton, and Katrin Otaegi.

Boys’ 100 Meter Freestyle – Finals

Podium:

After putting up the top time in prelims this morning, Luka Mijatovic scratched the final and made way for Maxwell Stanislaus to join the ‘A’ final.

It was Julian Granison who was out first at the 50. The 2027 Florida commit led by three-tenths with 23.64 at the halfway mark, while Tennessee commit Brody Chandler and Indiana commit Brady Campbell flipped in 23.93 and 23.99, respectively.

Chandler and Campbell both came home with 25.8s, moving past Granison to touch 1st and 2nd. Chandler took 7 tenths off his entry time, earning the Junior National title with 49.77. Campbell was also sub-50 for the first time; he improved his seed time by .4 to go 49.80.

Granison touched 3rd with 49.94, eking out a win by .01 over Texas A&M commit Micah Tennison, whose 2nd 50 of 25.8 nearly earned him Granison’s spot. Tennison finished with 49.95, about 4 tenths off his PB from U.S. Nationals last week.

Rounding out the ‘A’ final were Connor Christopherson (50.14), Evan Pan-Wang (50.32), Stanislaus (50.75), and Andreas Da Silva (50.85).

Girls’ 400 Individual Medley – Finals

Podium:

NC State commit Emerson Callis won her second event in as many days, powering to a 4:45.36 win in the 400 IM. After her 200 fly victory last night, it came as no surprise that Callis led the field after the butterfly leg. Her 1:03.54 gave her a full body-length lead over Zadie Schatz (1:05.10). Margot Levesque was in 3rd place after the fly (1:06.12).

Rowyn Wilber split the fastest backstroke leg, going 1:10.8 to move from 4th at the 100 to 1st place at the 200. Callis was in 2nd place, .4 behind Wilbur, while Levesque remained in 3rd.

Schatz shot past Wilbur and Levesque on the breaststroke, splitting 1:20.7 to come within .21 of leader Callis heading into the final 100 meters.

Callis came home in 1:04.9 to secure the win with 4:45.36. Schatz went 1:05.5 over the final 100 meters, placing 2nd in 4:46.25, just off her PB of 4:46.08 from last week’s U.S. Nationals. Wilber came in 3rd with 4:47.97, taking more than 2 seconds off her entry time.

Adalyn Lee, 6th at the 200, had a strong back half and placed 4th overall with 4:48.42.

Emma Hussein (4:50.86) edged Una Diaz (4:50.93) for 5th. Levesque ended up 7th, while Madalyn Petty came in 8th with 4:56.28.

Boys’ 400 Individual Medley – Finals

Podium:

After setting a new meet record in the 200 fly last night, Ewan Dalrymple blew away the field on the opening 100 of the boys’ 400 IM final, leading the field by 1.6 seconds with 56.25 butterfly leg from out in lane 7. Liam Smith was in 2nd (57.80), just in front of Cullen Kahl (59.22).

Dalrymple maintained his lead over the backstroke leg, while Syunata Lee moved into 2nd place ahead of Smith with a 1:06.7 split.

Lee and Kahl closed the gap significantly over the first 50 of breaststroke, outsplitting Dalrymple’s 39.7 with 36.4 and 35.3, respectively. It was Lee (3:19.61) and Kahl (3:19.67) leading the field by 2 seconds at the 300 wall, with Dalrymple maintaining his position ahead of everyone else.

Lee and Kahn battled stroke for stroke for the first 30 meters of freestyle, but Lee pulled ahead by .36 at the 350 wall. Kahn nearly closed the gap over the final 50 meters and it was an exciting finish, with Lee just holding him off and getting the win by .27 with 4:18.00.

Dalrymple took 3rd in 4:21.17.

Jeremy Tin clocked in at 4:22.01 to finish 4th with a 2-second advantage over the next wave of finishers: Parker van Olst (4:24.01), Santi Alzate (4:24.08), Jack Maddan (4:24.34), and Liam Smith (4:24.71).

Girls’ 50 Meter Breaststroke – Finals

Podium:

Grace Keonig-Song looked to be leading a tight field at the 25-meter mark, with Florida commit Kate Canales and Michigan commit Sofia Szymanowski just behind.

Canales had the strongest finish, though, and she eked out the title by .04 with 32.04. Koenig-Song was runner-up (32.08). Texas A&M-bound Ella McWhorter touched out North Carolina commit Cate Pawlaski, 32.27 to 32.29, for 3rd.

Hadleigh Kulas, Symanowski, Natalie Bradac, and Brenley Bonez, who had posted the morning’s top time, finished nearly together at 5th through 8th.

Boys’ 50 Meter Breaststroke – Finals

Podium:

Indiana commit Sam Wolf appeared to lead the final with 25 meters to go, but Neil Adamski powered past him on the second half to get the win with 27.89. Although Adamski was half a second off the meet record he had set in prelims, he was nonetheless the only swimmer to break 28 seconds in the final. Adamski, still 17, just finished his freshman year at Le Moyne College.

Ryan Coughenour took 3rd place with 28.39, touching out Andrew Pham (28.42), Max Laine (28.44), Reef McMeeking (28.50), Noah Chen (28.59), and Denny Woods (28.77).
