Trump invites India to join Gaza ‘Peace Board’

The US plan also includes a Palestinian committee of technocrats to govern the territory

India has been invited by US President Donald Trump to be part of a ‘Board of Peace’ to oversee governance and administration of the war-torn Palestinian enclave of Gaza.

Last week, the White House formally launched Phase Two of the US-backed peace initiative for Gaza, and established a ‘Board of Peace’.

The US ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, on Sunday shared a letter on X from Trump to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inviting the South Asian nation’s participation in the plan.

The board is envisaged to support effective governance to achieve stability and prosperity, according to Gor.

It is unclear how many countries have been invited, but an AP report counted at least dozen, including Pakistan and Türkiye, as invitees. The US is expected to announce the final list of member countries in the coming days, possibly during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, India Today reported.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair are among those on the founding executive board, chaired by Trump.

The body’s charter, obtained by multiple media outlets, requires nations to pay at least $1 billion to remain on the board beyond a three-year limit. The group is envisaged to oversee Gaza’s transition as the October 2025 ceasefire enters its second phase, with the deployment of an international security force, disarmament of Hamas, and reconstruction of the enclave as its priorities, the AP report said.

Israel has objected to an executive committee of leaders to carry out the board’s vision announced by the White House, saying it “was not coordinated with Israel and is contrary to its policy.”

Hungary has accepted the proposal, while Italy and Canada have signalled tentative support. Russia and China abstained from a November 2025 UN Security Council vote that adopted a resolution endorsing the peace plan for Gaza proposed by Trump.
