Greeley-based eye clinic Apex Vision and Wellness will pay $280,000 to the state in a settlement to resolve allegations that the clinic illegally billed the state’s Medicaid program for thousands of corrective lenses.
Apex Vision and Wellness, along with Fountain-based vision clinic Just for Grins, will pay a combined $520,000 for fraudulently billing Medicaid, according to a news release from Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser. Just for Grins will pay $240,000.
The Colorado Medicaid Fraud Abuse and Neglect Unit found that from 2019-2025, Apex Vision and Wellness and Just for Grins clinics billed the state for two sets of lenses but only provided patients with one set of lenses in over 1,800 claims. The clinics also billed the state for spherical lenses that were never created.
Apex will pay the state $65,000 immediately, and then pay four $53,750 payments annually plus interest. Just for Grins will pay the state $125,000 immediately, followed by three $38,333.33 payments annually plus interest.
