Moon celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary with his wife on July 5, 2025

Moon was famous for composing music for extremely popular shows from the 1980s until his death, including work for Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, The Fairly OddParents, Danny Phantom, and many more. He even received four Emmy nominations for his work on The Fairly OddParents, Danny Phantom, and T.U.F.F. Puppy. He also composed a segment of Fight Club, the Brady Bunchmovies, and Rocky and Bullwinkle.
Most famously, Moon had a close working relationship and friendship with animator Butch Hartman, whose podcast he visited in March 2020 to talk about his career.
"My dad plays 'Boogie Woogie' on the piano all the time... and one day [at five years old] I just asked him to show me how he was doing it. He showed me, and I started playing, and that was the beginning of my infatuation with music," Moon told Hartman of his early music days.
He also shared the surprising story that brought him to Hanna Barbera, and ultimately to meeting Hartman. He met his lawyer through a mutual friend when he got his first contract ever, and that lawyer asked him for a tape to send to his nephew... an editor at the iconic cartoon studio.
"Whoever this editor was gave that tape to [songwriter] Bodie Chandler... I got a call from Bodie [who said] this stuff is real rough, but I hear something in there that I think we can develop," Moon recalled.

Hartman had also met Chandler at Hanna Barbera, and the pair eventually met while working on an episode of a Johnny Bravo/Adam West crossover with Seth MacFarlane. "I come around the corner in Bodie's office, and you're sitting there laughing at this episode," Hartman remembered. "You thought it was really funny, and you were gonna do the music for it." The pair went on to work on countless projects together over the next four decades.
