A lot has changed between 2001 and now. But one thing has remained constant: Fear. Even if the sources have changed, fear has served as a constant motivator, prompting us to immediately jump into that "fight or flight" mentality. It only makes sense, then, why Fear Factor has been rebooted so many times following its original five-year run back in the early 2000s. And this Sunday, Jan. 11, the hit reality show returns once again, this time with a new host in Johnny Knoxville and under a new banner and concept: Fear Factor: House of Fear.

Unlike previous seasons, which were filmed on an episodic basis, this takes on a serialized style more befitting of a show like Survivor or The Traitors. Fourteen everyday people will live in a house together in a remote location, getting eliminated along the way in the pursuit of $200,000. But, at the end of the day, the concept is still the same: Survive Knoxville and company's frightful stunts, and prove that fear is not a factor to you. And, in an exclusive sneak peek of the show, it looks like House of Fear wastes no time in ramping up the competition.
Fear Factor was known in its heyday for extreme stunts like jumping from one moving truck to another, as well as eating gross foods. But the sneak peek has things standing frightfully still. The players essentially get vacuum-sealed, suspended in plastic bags that are slowly getting the air sucked out of them. While the image may look humorous on the surface, for a claustrophobe, it's an absolute nightmare.

The 20-year-old Canadian opines how much he's out of his element, saying, "I'm only 20 years old, and I'm a university student. I've never experienced anything like this. I want to throw up. But here I am, and it's happening. I'm here to face my fear.Eventually, Ethan and the other players are reduced to mere still frames, their movement incredibly restricted. The Jackass star adds fuel to the fire, asking, "Does anyone feel their organs compressing as the walls close in?" Despite the mounting anxiety, the players try to keep each other calm, urging one another to keep their eyes open and breathe deeply into the hose supplying the limited air they have. But, just when everyone is about to get comfortable (or as comfortable as they could be), Knoxville decides to turn up the tension — by turning out the lights. Before the contestants can even get their heads around what's going on, everything goes black. It's a very on-the-nose metaphor for what these 14 people are soon to experience: A multitude of extreme tasks thrown their way, leaving them quite in the dark.Check out the clip above for an exclusive preview of what's to come. Fear Factor: House of Fear will have a special advanced premiere on FOX airing Sunday, Jan. 11 at 8 pm ET directly after the NFL Wild Card game. The premiere will re-air on its regular time slot Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 9 pm ET/PT.
