A band that once spent a decade apart is filling its calendar well into next year.
Lynyrd Skynyrd has added 10 performances to its schedule, with six new U.S. dates set for later this year and four European appearances planned for July 2027.
The announcement comes as the band continues its Double Trouble Double Vision Tour with Foreigner. The 19-date co-headlining run continues through Aug. 29 before Lynyrd Skynyrd moves into a series of headlining concerts and festival appearances throughout the fall.
Four of the newly added U.S. performances will take place between Sept. 16 and Sept. 24. The band will then return to the road in November for festival appearances in Florida and Arizona.
The four 2027 shows will take Lynyrd Skynyrd overseas, beginning July 2 in Klam, Austria. The brief European run also includes another Austrian festival and two performances in Germany. Ticket information is available through the band's official tour page.
View this post on InstagramLynyrd Skynyrd first rose to national prominence with its 1973 debut album, (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd). Songs including "Free Bird," "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Simple Man" helped make the group one of the most influential Southern rock bands of the decade.
Tragedy brought the band's original run to an abrupt end on Oct. 20, 1977. Three days after the release of Street Survivors, the band's chartered plane ran out of fuel and crashed near Gillsburg, Miss. The crash killed frontman Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, backing vocalist Cassie Gaines, road manager Dean Kilpatrick and both pilots.
The surviving members suffered serious injuries and Lynyrd Skynyrd disbanded following the crash. Ten years later, the band reunited for what was expected to be a one-time tribute tour, with Ronnie's younger brother Johnny Van Zant taking over as lead singer.
Johnny initially declined to sing "Free Bird" during the reunion, leaving audiences to perform the lyrics while the band played it as an instrumental. He later recalled that founding guitarist Gary Rossington changed his mind, telling him, "Your brother was a writer and a singer, and he wrote those words. He would want you to sing it."
The reunion ultimately led to the band's full-time return. Lynyrd Skynyrd continued recording and touring, then entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
Nearly 40 years after that reunion, the band's newly expanded schedule shows how strongly its music continues to connect with audiences around the world.
