Johnny Manziel knows fans were waiting to watch his appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay on Dec. 20, and when that didn’t happen, well, the former Texas A&M star quarterback wanted to give his side of the story.
Manziel was set to appear on the popular ESPN pregame show before his Aggies faced Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff. The fans in College Station were ready and so was a national TV audience, with “Johnny Football” being a really attractive watch, both when he was playing and now after his playing career.
So, what exactly happened to Manziel, who starred at Texas A&M from 2011-13, to make him miss out on such a great opportunity to connect with fans? Manziel took to his podcast on Thursday to let everyone know why they didn’t get to hear what he had to say that day.
Manziel said he had planned to attend the Aggies-Hurricanes Playoff showdown with legendary rapper Drake, but all those grand plans changed when Manziel got sick the night before the game with what he called an “unbelievable” virus.

First, they didn’t get to watch one of their Aggie football heroes on the pregame show, then things got much worse a few hours later when Texas A&M was shut down by that Miami defense in a 10-3 loss that brought the Aggies’ dream season to a sudden end.
Just maybe, Manziel could’ve helped his old college program on the field that day much more than any appearance on College GameDay.
