    WOMEN’S RECAP

Leading the way for the Hawaii women was senior Holly Nelson, who swept her individual events and anchored the team’s 400 free relay.

Nelson won the women’s 50 free (22.84) and 100 free (49.72), coming off setting respective best times of 22.43 and 48.80 at the SMU Invitational in November. Nelson also won the 50 fly in a personal best time of 24.07 after going 24.27 earlier this season against Grand Canyon.

Placing 2nd in the 50 fly was BYU’s Sarah Eliason, who set a new program record in 24.49, lowering the previous mark of 24.53 set by Emma Marusakova in 2025.

In the meet-ending 400 free relay, BYU snagged the victory, as Haylee Tiffany (50.39), Tatum Cooley (50.55), Kara Martinson (50.73) and Victoria Schreiber (49.97) combined for a time of 3:21.64, holding off the Rainbow Wahine, which clocked 3:22.02 after a quick 48.66 anchor leg from Nelson.

Along with anchoring the Cougars’ winning relay, Schreiber went two-for-two individually, sweeping the 500 free (4:55.12) and 1000 free (10:06.15) with a pair of season-best times.

The third-highest individual scorer of the meet was Hawaii’s Zofia Tyminska, who came out on top in the 200 breast (2:17.65) and was the runner-up in both the 50 breast (28.96) and 200 IM (2:06.06). Tyminska set best times of 2:11.56 in the 200 breast and 1:58.39 in the 200 IM at the SMU Invitational in November.

Her teammate Rebekka Luoto won the 50 breast (28.76), while BYU’s Lucy Warnick dominated the 200 IM in 2:00.72, just shy of her best time of 2:00.52.

In addition to their win in the 400 free relay, BYU also topped the 400 medley relay, with Marusakova, Warnick, Eliason and Tiffany clocking 3:41.23, breaking the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex pool record (splits unavailable).

Tiffany also won the 200 free in a time of 1:48.66, just over a second back of the best time she set in November (1:47.25).

    MEN’S RECAP

The BYU men set four pool records en route to winning the battle against the Rainbow Warriors, kicking off 2026 on a high note.

“It was an amazing week of training in sunny Hawaii,” head coach Tamber McAllister said. “Our team built great camaraderie, raced in a very fast meet, and gained valuable experience against strong competition from the University of Hawaii. What stood out most was how athlete‑driven the week became—our leaders set the tone, and the team followed.”

The Cougars kicked the meet off in the 400 medley relay, setting a new Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex record of 3:12.26 behind the squad of Max Kleinman (47.09), Peter Etzold (53.66), Tanner Edwards (47.31) and Joshua Reed (44.30).

BYU junior Tanner Nelson followed up by claiming a new pool record in the 200 free, putting up a time of 1:36.55, within a second of his personal best of 1:35.58.

Senior Tyler Edlefsen then claimed two more pool records for the Cougars, doing so in the 200 breast (1:57.05) and 200 IM (1:46.61), setting a new best time in the former.

The top individual performer at the meet was Hawaii’s Karol Ostrowski, who went three-for-three with wins in the 50 free (19.63), 50 back (21.49) and 50 fly (20.91). His swim in the 50 fly marked a new personal best, while his performance in the 50 free was just shy of the pool record he set last season (19.57).

The runner-up in the 50 free, BYU’s Kleinman, clocked 19.93 in that event and followed up by winning the 100 free in 43.93, out-touching Hawaii’s Tim Brown (44.03). Kleinman also took 2nd to Ostrowski in the 50 fly, posting a time of 21.19.

Ostrowski also guided the Rainbow Warriors to a win in the 400 free relay, leading off in 43.68 before Finn Brophy (43.46), Victor Dagenais (44.14) and Regan Richardson (43.70) finished things off to clock 2:54.98, easily outpacing BYU (2:57.59).

On the boards, Hawaii’s Juan Ramirez Tamayo earned a sweep, topping the 1-meter (338.40) and 3-meter (386.18) events.
