Trinidad Chambliss makes plans for 2026 season ahead of waiver decision, per report

Trinidad Chambliss does not know yet if he will be eligible to play in the 2026 college football season. If he receives a waiver, Chambliss will reportedly run it back with the Ole Miss Rebels.

College football insider Ross Dellenger reported Monday morning, per sources, that Chambliss has agreed to a new deal with Ole Miss if he can play another season. The new report is significant news for the Rebels as there was speculation surrounding whether Chambliss would enter the transfer portal amid rumors of a potential reunion with Lane Kiffin at LSU.

Chambliss is seeking an extra year of eligibility. As covered by ESPN and other outlets, Chambliss’s NCAA request focuses on 2022 at Ferris State. After taking a traditional redshirt in 2021, Chambliss did not play during the 2022 season. He dealt with respiratory issues during the season that ultimately led him to have his tonsils removed. Chambliss enlisted attorney Tom Mars, a prominent attorney who has worked on college sports legal matters over the years, to help make his case for a 6th-year waiver.

If Chambliss receives a waiver, his return would give Ole Miss a big boost toward getting back to the College Football Playoff next season. This season, Chambliss has completed 66.4% of his passes for 3,660 yards and 21 touchdowns to just 3 interceptions, an SEC low for QBs with more than 250 passing attempts. As a runner, Chambliss also has 520 rushing yards and 8 scores.

Chambliss is coming off a sensational performance in the Sugar Bowl, in which he threw for 362 yards and 2 scores in Ole Miss’s 39-34 win over Georgia. Up next, Pete Golding‘s No. 2 seed Rebels face the No. 10 seed Miami Hurricanes in the CFP semifinal at the Fiesta Bowl on Thursday.
