ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We have issued a Yellow Alert for Monday due to widespread snow that may create slick travel conditions during the morning commute. Before then however, more winter weather on the way in the form of Lake Ontario snow showers.
Lake effect snow will begin this morning and continue southeast of Lake Ontario into the evening. 1-3″ is expected with the higher end being wherever the most persistent snow bands are. Closer to the Finger Lakes less than an inch is expected. Highs today will be in the mid to upper 20s.
Widespread light snow from an Alberta Clipper moves in very early tomorrow morning and will be passing through the region through the afternoon, tapering off by the evening. Although snowfall amounts will not be much, it will be falling across the region during the morning commute which will cause snowy and slippery conditions. Combining the snowfall from today and tomorrow, we are looking at totals of 3-6″ along the lakeshore, 1-3″ down to the Finger Lakes, and a trace to an inch in the Southern Tier.
Then begins a warming trend that may see us eventually get as warm as 50 degrees on Friday. Our weather pattern will remain active during the warmup, though. Multiple chances for rain from mid to late week, before temperatures fall drastically again on Saturday. We are closely monitoring Saturday’s forecast incase that change in the weather looks hazardous. We’re back to the 30s for the start of next week.
