After four episodes of dealing with the fallout that was Mickey’s mom coming back from the dead, Sheriff Country delved straight into a much bigger, life-threatening event, as it crossed over with Fire Country.
Morena Baccarin’s Sheriff Mickey Fox put herself in harm’s way in an attempt to protect her daughter, Skye. She put her faith in her deputies as she faced an unknown fate, and it was really only by luck and wits that she was able to get through it all.
Baccarin chatted with Parade exclusively about the two-part crossover, starting with just how much Mickey has been through recently.
“It was really tricky, and I wasn’t sure how they were going to wrap it up after the bomb dropped at the end of the season,” Baccarin admitted, and it’s something that many fans likely felt. How can you bring someone back from the dead and just have Mickey accept that?
“We don’t really tie it up neatly. She thought her mom was dead, and that Eva was someone else. Then this woman in front of her is her mom, and she can’t open herself up to it. I think it’s realistic. The mom Mickey knew is gone, and she can’t start over and pretend that Eva is her mother.”

Baccarin would love to work with her again, sharing, “I enjoyed working with Rachel a lot, and I felt like she brought so much to the table. It’ll be interesting, and I hope the character comes back again and we continue to pick at this scab. There’s a lot of unsaid stuff still there, but it was a tough one.”
There isn’t much time to break all that down and breathe, as the Sheriff Country hour of the Edgewater crossover picks up with a major threat. Not only have the winds picked up and the wildfire is threatening to spread to the town, but there are three escaped convicts. One of those has it out for Mickey.
“She’s the one who should go to Costa Rica with Maria,” Baccarin joked as we got into how Mickey has just handled her dad going missing, and now she has to worry about Skye. However, it’s clear that Skye does have a good head on her shoulders. “I think Mickey can see that Skye has needed her for so long, and she was not able to be there, and blames herself. Now the roles are reversing a little. Both learn a lot from each other.”
There’s going to be a lot more development to this mother-daughter relationship as the season progresses, and that means there will also be more scenes between Mickey and Travis, as Baccarin teased: “They really understand each other. It’s not meant to be, but they’re always going to be in each other’s lives because of Skye, and they’re always just there for each other.”
Travis and Mickey have grown up together, and they know each other deeply, and Baccarin continued, “He’s her go-to rock. No matter what’s going on with them, he’s somebody she can count on and rely on.”

All Rights Reserved.Sheriff Country Season 2 has certainly been one for Mickey to realize who she can lean on as well. Throughout the four-episode arc with Eva, she turned to Boone more, and during the crossover event with Fire Country, she relied on Kevin Alejandro’s Manny Perez.
“It was a great episode. She literally had her hands tied. She couldn’t do anything, and so she relied on Manny to understand her strategy,” Baccarin broke down those two hours and the bond that formed. They worked together to drag things out and create diversions long enough to allow Station 42 and the Sheriff’s Department to find a way to stop the convicts.
Of course, being vulnerable and trusting people is not Mickey’s strong suit, but Baccarin shared, “But when she goes there, she goes there. I think it’s important to notice why or when, and who. It happened to be Manny who was also vulnerable, and he’s not known for his vulnerability at all.”
This Fire Country and Sheriff Country crossover event certainly helped to bring different dynamics to the stage. During the first crossover event earlier in 2026, there was a lot of focus on Bode and Boone. This second event put a lot of emphasis on Manny and Mickey, and Baccarin and Alejandro haven’t had a lot of time to work together since Baccarin guest-starred on Fire Country.
“It was really fun,” Baccarin shared. “We had worked together last season as actor-director. He directed our third episode, but getting to work together as Manny and Mickey was revelatory. It was really cool to see these two characters have a history and become friends and see the possibility of a relationship.”
Romance likely isn’t in the air for the two of them. During the opening of Sheriff Country, Manny points out that he’s in a happy relationship, and sure enough, Fire Country fans have seen that. There’s also the issue of the two shows filming on opposite sides of the country, as Fire Country films in Vancouver while Sheriff Country films around Toronto.
It means a lot of logistical planning to make the crossover events work, and it turns out that it’s a “scheduling nightmare.”

All Rights Reserved.Sheriff Country went on a brief filming hiatus to get everyone across to Vancouver to film the Fire Country hour. As for the Fire Country cast members flying over, they did it all before the show even started filming. It worked out, but it is why some of the storylines can feel a little out of sync with the rest of the individual seasons.
Another problem that gets in the way of a relationship is the elephant in the room: Mickey and Boone.
“There’s always something up with those two,” Baccarin said, as she chuckled, knowing that this topic had to come up. “Her feelings are coming to the surface, but she’s still in denial. As she sees the relationship with Emmy and Boone flourish, a lot of things are going to come up.”
There is still a strong friendship between the two of them, though, and that’s something that can’t be messed with. In other words, we’ll have to wait and see what the Sheriff Country writers have in store for us.
Sheriff Country and Fire Country air on Fridays starting at 8/7c on CBS.
