HENRIETTA, N.Y. — More than 700 people participated in the Winter Warrior Half Marathon and Quarter Marathon at Monroe Community College in Henrietta Saturday.
The half marathon spanned over 13 miles, and the quarter marathon spanned close to 7 miles. Participants got Winter Warrior hats, medals, pizza, and bragging rights.
Organizers shared what it means to be a Winter Warrior.
“So, a Winter Warrior means a lot of things, first of all, you get the hat, so that’s probably the most important thing for the athletes,” said Fleet Feet Owner Ellen Brenner-Boutillier. “The second thing is bragging rights, cause you know you’re out here in the cold, doing what you’re doing, with friends, and just having a great time out in the winter.”
The event is held annually, regardless of the weather. Saturday morning, the temperatures were in the mid 20s, but felt like they were in the teens.
The Winter Warrior race is part of Fleet Feet’s “Four Season Challenge.” Participants can either commit to four half marathons (including the Winter Warrior) or four 5K’s.
