Sleeping in was a great idea until I remembered what errands I had to run today. Whoopsiedoodle. First up on the Saturday to-do list: This set of BN Bears Bullets.
The final injury reports ahead of the Week 18 clash between the Bears and Lions are out. On the Detroit side of things, the Lions will be without some notable key players — including star offensive tackle Penei Sewell. As for Chicago, the Bears received some relatively encouraging news about Rome Odunze. The second-year wide receiver is questionable for Sunday’s game. I’m taking this update as a sign that he will get the green light to play in the Bears’ wild-card playoff game.EPISODE NO. 15 OF THE BN BEARS PODCAST: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
LEMME GET THIS STRAIGHT… the Bears would be underdogs — at home — in every scenario??? Early odds for Wild Card Matchups are up on @FDSportsbook.. I dunno man. pic.twitter.com/uFkD7ykm3b
— Kay Adams (@heykayadams) January 2, 2026 Personally, I like it when the Bears are underdogs. It means there is no pressure. And while I like that pressure means there are high expectations, going into the game feeling like your favorite team is playing with house money is a comfortable feeling. Besides, I feel as if a coach like Ben Johnson will use any and all slights against his team as motivating factors. It is lovely seeing Bears rookie receiver Luther Burden III get some love:"Luther Burden is at 2.82 YPRR as a rookie. That is the most in the modern era for a rookie Wide Receiver." ? @adamlevitan and @evansilva on the breakouts from CHI's rookies: pic.twitter.com/JtzMW9nhk8
— Establish The Run (@EstablishTheRun) January 2, 2026 A brief primer on Yards Per Route Run via Matthew Berry’s Fantasy Life: “Yards per route run measures the average number of yards a receiver generates each time they run a route.” On the one hand, I’m not looking forward to doing offseaosn content because 98 percent of my focus is on the here-and-now with the other 1 percent of my focus being on the NFC Playoff Picture. That leaves 1 percent to think about the offseason. And one thing I’m planning to do this offseason is a roundup of some of the most useful advanced analytics (EPA, Yards Per Route Run, etc.) and lay out why they are important and valuable. So when next year rolls around, we can dig into that type of stuff more and provide some additional depth in our coverage. This is the type of content I love seeing from the Bears beat:Spoke with #Bears center Drew Dalman and talked about Caleb Williams' cadence and how much that part has grown for the Bears' second-year quarterback. Here is a small preview. — Nicholas Moreano (@NicholasMoreano) January 1, 2026 We have seen the Bears waste so much money in free agency over the years. But the Drew Dalman signing deserves a gold star. The Pro Bowl center has been everything that Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson said he would be when he signed as a free agent.Cleaning up some things out of my bookmarks folder that I wanted to share earlier in the week, but forgot (please forgive me!)…
Some Caleb Williams fun facts:Per Bears PR: Caleb Williams is the first Bears QB since at least 1991 to have multiple games with 2+ passing touchdowns of 35+ yards in a single half. The last NFL QB to do it was Lamar Jackson in 2023.
— Kevin Fishbain (@kfishbain.bsky.social) December 29, 2025 at 12:00 AMOne aspect of Caleb Williams’ game that’s been especially impressive, his ability to take care of the football. Bears lead the NFL in fewest giveaways (10), t-1st just 6-INT (PHI). I asked Caleb about it today… also, Happy New Year!?#TheInsiders @nflnetwork #DaBears pic.twitter.com/2mrybZxJ1C
— StaceyDales (@StaceyDales) January 1, 2026 Every year, I like to dig into the Bears QB numbers and find fun stuff. Some years, it is like a taffy pull. But I don’t think it will be like that this offseason. Hopefully, I won’t have to do that post for a while. — The Athletic (@theathletic.com) December 28, 2025 at 8:31 PM I’m not someone who lives with a ton of regrets. But not completing the photojournalism course I began at SIU Carbondale remains as one of those things that I wish I would have saw through to the end. Sure, I got a ton of on-the-job training over the years. And having friends in the industry who taught me tricks of the trade helped a ton. However, I still feel like there was more to learn in a classroom from a photojournalism professor that I still hold oodles of respect for to this day. Maybe I’ll take a photo class this year.
