As with many of the most popular Harlan Coben titles that have landed on Netflix in recent years, the US-based novel Run Away has been transformed into a gritty UK tale.
Kicking off the new year in a suitably dramatic fashion, Run Away follows Simon Greene (James Nesbitt) as he embarks on a desperate search for his daughter Paige (Ellie de Lange) which takes him into a dangerous underworld.
From the start of the series, we're taken on quite the rollercoaster journey as we follow Simon in his search for his daughter as it overlaps with Elena Ravenscroft's (Ruth Jones) investigation into a missing person. But are the two cases connected?

Run Away was filmed in Manchester and the northwest of England, with the location clearly striking a sweet spot for the revered author and his team.
Although the original novel is set in New York City, like with many of Coben's Netflix adaptations, he has brought the story to the UK for the television adaptation. Speaking to Netflix's Tudum, he said: "When you do as many shows as we’ve done there, you really get the charm.
"What’s wonderful about the north of England is there’s such variety. There’s a combination of everyday and eccentric about the settings there."
In terms of specific filming locations, cast were spotted filming in Stockport and Liverpool, as well as Saddleworth Moor and Dukinfield. Viewers may also recognise Evelyn’s in the Northern Quarter as the plant-based restaurant that Elena scopes out and stalks the owner of, with a few scenes at the start of the series being filmed there.
Speaking about filming the series, actor Alfred Enoch said in a press pack for the series: "We had a sequence of scenes where we were shooting in the police station. It was around the time of the Champions League semi-finals, and the location was St Peter’s Square which is right in the heart of the Northern Quarter in Manchester. That was quite noisy in the middle of a heatwave where everyone is outside drinking. It was about 34 degrees, and we were inside!"
Coben also said: "There is a scene in Sefton Park in Liverpool where the two police officers are looking for somebody and they go back to the same location where many years ago I was the Maitre D with Tom Cullen and Sarah Solemani meeting in the same conservatory building in [Sky series] The Five. It was fun to revisit that after all these years."
Minnie Driver also admitted that she had never been to Liverpool before, saying: "For me, the most gorgeous discovery was Liverpool and Sefton Park. I had never been to Liverpool before. I could not believe how beautiful it is. Genuinely, I had no idea.
"I had some idea of it being some Victorian port but not that it is full of beautiful Georgian squares and buildings. The architecture and the layout of the city is so fantastically beautiful with this huge park in the middle. We shot in this Georgian square which is meant to be the exterior of the house that looks exactly like a big Georgian square in London."
