ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Yellow Alert continues into Wednesday for more rounds of lake effect snow. Weather will be clear and travel quiet at times, and at times, travel will be extremely difficult with heavy lake effect snow. The main snow band has been shifting back to the north, and should settle over the south shore of Lake Ontario, and northern Wayne County. Another few inches of snow will fall in these locations, with some higher amounts in extreme northeastern Wayne County into Wednesday morning.
Another weak disturbance will bring an uptick in scattered snow showers once again, starting late morning, with a better chance for heavier lake snows and some snow squalls. Conditions will likely deteriorate during the afternoon and evening as those squalls pick up. If you have New Year’s Eve plans, just take it slow to help you get where you need to go safely. Snowfall amounts will vary greatly, with a few inches in the Finger Lakes, to as much as a foot in extreme northeastern Wayne County and east of Lake Ontario.
Lake snow will begin to lighten up and taper off on Thursday, but we may start the day off with some snowy conditions in the morning. The Yellow Alert should be discontinued at that point, but the snow won’t be over quite yet. We’ll get another fast moving clipper with some snow showers and a little lake snow on Friday, with another round over the weekend.
If you’re looking for the big Nor’easter, that isn’t in the forecast. But heavy lake effect snow is, at least for some of us.
